SMS to be restored in Kashmir from today

JAMMU: Short Message Service (SMS) will be resumed in Kashmir from Tuesday midnight, Jammu and Kashmir Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal said here on Tuesday.

Broadband services will also resume in government schools and hospitals from Tuesday midnight.

A communicat­ion blockade was imposed across J&K after the revocation of Article 370 on August 5. The curbs were lifted gradually with landlines being restored first, which was followed by the opening up of the post-paid mobile phone services.

While broadband internet has been restored in Jammu, it still remains suspended in Kashmir. Mobile internet service continues to remain blocked both in Jammu and Srinagar. The service was restored last week in Kargil area of the newly formed Union Territory of Ladakh.

Prepaid mobile phone service continue to remain suspended in Kashmir.

Five more mainstream politician­s, including two MLAS, have been released from detention in Jammu & Kashmir.

The five — Abdul Jabbar, Bashir Ahmad Mir, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Yasir Reshi, and Ghulam Nabi — were released from the MLA Hostel in Srinagar.

A total of 35 mainstream politician­s were moved from the Centuar Hotel on the banks of the Dal Lake to the MLA Hostel last month. Four of the detained politician­s had been released earlier. The number of detained leaders is now 26.

Among these, three former Chief Ministers Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba

Mufti have been detained since August 5 following the revocation of Article 370.

Farooq Abdullah has been detained in his house at Gupkar Road that has been declared as a sub-jail. Omar Abdullah has been detained at Hari Niwas and Mehbooba Mufti is detained at a government house on MA Road in Srinagar.

A double bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court has ordered a CBI probe into the violations of master plan in the area of Patnitop and Sanasar which falls in the jurisdicti­on of Patnitop Developmen­t Authority.

The court’s order came after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in 2018 regarding encroachme­nt and illegal constructi­ons at Patnitop.

Patnitop is a famous hill station on the Jammu-srinagar route. People go to Patnitop to enjoy snowfall in winters.

The popular hill resort has many hotels and other facilities for the tourists.
