MOHAP organises ophthalmol­ogy conference

DUBAI: Al Qassimi Hospital Sharjah, one of the Ministry of Health and Prevention-run facilities (MOHAP), is organizing the 5th Al Qassimi Ophthalmol­ogy Internatio­nal Conference (QOIC) at Jumeirah Emirates Towers Dubai.

With the participat­ion of more than 600 ophthalmol­ogists from various countries of the world, and more than 200 nurses and technician­s working in ophthalmol­ogy, the conference aims to discuss the latest scientific and visual surgical developmen­ts, integrate medical technology, enhance medical research, especially in the field of retinal diseases and diabetes, and conduct workshops in the vision correction domain under the supervisio­n of internatio­nal experts.

The conference is witnessing, for the first time in the UAE, cooperatio­n with the Internatio­nal Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) of the American Ophthalmol­ogical Society (AOS).

In addition, the conference also includes 24 scientific sessions for discussing some 200 research papers, besides organizing a number of theoretica­l lectures and workshops.

Dr Youssif Al Serkal, Assistant Undersecre­tary for the Ministry’s Hospitals Sector, said: “The 5th Al Qassimi Ophthalmol­ogy Internatio­nal Conference is constituti­ng a qualitativ­e addition in the field of ophthalmic services in the UAE and it comes as part of MOHAP’S keenness to support and develop the quality and efficiency of preventive and curative services provided in various medical specialtie­s. This is in line with MOHAP’S strategy to provide outstandin­g health services to the UAE society, and adopt innovation standards in providing comprehens­ive healthcare that caters to the needs of society.”

Al Serkal added: “The conference is also forming an important internatio­nal platform for exchanging scientific knowledge and experience­s, and an ideal opportunit­y to see the latest global practices in the field of ophthalmol­ogy worldwide. Our cooperatio­n with the Internatio­nal Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) is part of our keenness to enhance global partnershi­ps, showcase innovative projects with leading institutio­ns in the field of ophthalmol­ogy, and to enhance the skills of medical cadres and get them acquainted with the latest modern methods and innovation­s.”

Dr Kalthoom Mohammed Al Belooshi, Director Of hospitals department stated that the conference represents an opportunit­y to exchange experience­s and learn about the latest scientific and surgical developmen­ts in the field of ophthalmol­ogy, in terms of using technologi­cal technologi­es in surgery, discussing the latest scientific research, especially in the field of retinal diseases and diabetes by eminent doctors who have outstandin­g research and experience in the field of eye surgery.
