BE THE CHANGE
The one about existential moment is a good one. It does seem like this new knowledge of being forgotten is destabilising, but that’s because majority of humans want to be remembered. For whatever. It isn’t that we are so important, in fact relatively, when and if we can grasp the vastness of the universe, we are nothing (“We’re living in an acutely existential moment,” Feb.13, Gulf Today).
So, in the above light, the existential crises doesn’t make much sense. Of how much consequence is a star that is 1000 light years away? Nada. The star will burn and die and the universe goes on. It baffles me why humans would think differently about themselves.
However, the brighter side to the existential moment is that it can give us the courage to live life with our hair let truly down. Make love, make mistakes. Nobody will remember anyway. And while you’re at it, make a difference in someone’s life. It will be remembered for the lifetime of that person.
The article talks about making a difference for the future. But I say, do it now. Don’t be a Hitler in the now. Don’t be a trump or a Modi in the now. Don’t be a slave driver in the now. Be kind in the now. The future will take care of itself.
