DUBAI: The Dubai Public Prosecution referred two Ethiopian maids to the criminal court, for robbing valuable items worth over Dhs27,000 from their employer’s house.

According to official records, the house owner testified that she had received a call from her sister on the day of the incident, stating that the two maids had run away from the house.

The victim rushed to the maids’ room to look for them, but instead found her savings box emptied on the floor of their bathroom.

She immediately headed to the bedroom to check her belongings, and discovered that they stole five handbags worth Dhs15,000, three sports shoes worth Dhs1,200, three travel bags worth Dhs1,200, three gold bracelets, clothes worth Dhs3,000, Abayas worth Dhs1,500, make-up products worth Dhs2,000, and a cash amount of Dhs3,000.

The two suspects were caught by police and confessed to their crime.

Earlier, the Dubai Public Prosecution referred a 26 year-old Asian salesman to criminal court for stealing 86 luxury watches worth Dhs8.3 million from a jewellery shop. The suspect committed the robbery with the help of two other runaway accomplices, and sold two watches to his colleague for Dhs10,000, and convinced him not to report the theft.

The victim, who owns several jewellery shops, was left surprised when he found a staff member with a white box, which the latter claimed to have found inside a trashcan. The box contained a luxury steel-gold watch worth Dhs30,000.

At first, the victim thought that the watch had mistakenly fallen into the trashcan; but after investigating the bizarre incident, surveillance cameras revealed that the suspect was the one who stole the watch, and hid it in a box inside the trashcan to easily get it out of the shop later on.

When the suspect was investigated, he denied committing the robbery.

The victim summoned the suspect’s brother, who works as manager at one of his shops, and asked the suspect about the theft again. In duress, he eventually confessed to committing multiple thefts, including two watches worth Dhs250,000, and Dhs270,000.
