Smart gate to fine traffic offenders in AD from tomorrow

- Gulf Today, Staff Reporter

ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi Police will start on Sunday ( March 8th) activating smart gates on the Al Ain — Abu Dhabi road to monitor weather conditions, send instant signals to the “Safe City” centre to determine the speed of vehicles on the road according to the visibility state, through the sensor systems provided by smart gates.

Abu Dhabi Police urged drivers to adhere to the speeds shown in the screens, noting that radars installed in the towers will capture traffic violations such as: overspeeding, vehicles with expired licences, heavy vehicles that are not authorized to drive on roads, not leaving an adequate safety distance, parking on shoulder of the road or hindering traffic.

Abu Dhabi Police affirmed the necessity to adhere to the guidance messages transmitted through smart cabins during changing weather, to follow the alerts transmitted by Abu Dhabi Police through radio stations and social media and to adhere to preventive instructions through the smart system of Abu Dhabi Police.

Abu Dhabi Police clarified that smart gates reduce traffic accidents, and enhance traffic safety for drivers and road users, stressing that issuing violations using smart systems contributes to providing the highest levels of traffic safety, and avoiding the negative consequences of driving a vehicle with expired registration.

Abu Dhabi Police called on owners of vehicles with expired registration to renew their licencing to avoid applying Article 25 of Traffic Law regarding driving a vehicle with expired registration which will be fined Dhs500 dirhams, besides four traffic points, and seizing the vehicle for seven days.

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters has urged the public to take advantage of the 50 per cent discount on traffic violations committed in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which ends on 22nd March.

The Abu Dhabi Police called on all motorists to take advantage of the announcement, to ensure payment of their traffic fines within the said period, and to settle their legal status.

ADP also expressed hopes that the initiative will provide drivers with an incentive to reduce the burden of fines incurred as a result of traffic violations and to adhere to roads and traffic systems and laws that ensure the safety and security of the general public.

In December last year, the Abu Dhabi Police announced a 50 percent discount on traffic fines and cancellation of vehicles impounded and black traffic points committed in the emirate before 22nd December 2019, for a period of three months.
