DUBAI: Within four hours of receiving a theft report, the Dubai Police successfully identified and arrested an Asian man dressed as a woman in abaya and niqab for theft.

Naif Police Station had received a call reporting about the theft of Dhs146,000 and $22,000 from a company in Dubai, and accordingly, police officers rushed to the scene of the crime to start their investigation.

Brigadier Tariq Tehlak, Director of Naif Police Station, said that officers at the scene reviewed surveillance cameras to find out that the thief was well disguised and wearing women’s clothes. The thief was smart enough to use napkins to avoid leaving his fingerprints on the cash drawers.

“The robbery was carried out without any signs of breaking-in, and upon analysing the thief’s body languageandmovements, itwasobviousthathewas an employee of the company,” Brig. Tehlak added.

After investigating all employees and by using criminal profiling, Dubai Police easily identified the thief. The company’s owner retrieved the stolen money, who in his turn expressed his deepest gratitude to Dubai Police, and praised their quick response in fighting crimes and maintaining the safety of all members of the society.

SHIP CREW

In another development, The Sharjah Criminal Court adjourned case ruling of two suspects, who were responsible of the death of a ship’s full crew.

Details of the incident date back to February 2017, when a ship went off course and rammed into a breakwater that made it sink and killed its crew.

A human error caused by the suspects had led to such a tragic incident, as they were the reason behind keeping the ship’s crew on wait to dock for more than 10 days without any supplies.

The crew were forced to face rough seas and unstable weather conditions that led to their death.

Upon confronting the first suspect, he denied all accusations and claimed that full responsibility fell on the captain of the ship.

The suspect claimed that all necessary supplies were available at Ajman port. The court ordered a continued imprisonment of the suspect, and adjourned the ruling session till Mar.18.

In an unrelated development recently, Sharjah Police General Directorate launched an awareness campaign against online scams.

The month-long initiative targets members of the public including students of different age groups.

The launch took place in the presence of officials from Sharjah Police’s Media and Public Relations Department, the Criminal Investigation Department, Community Police Department, Comprehensive Police Stations, and External Areas Police Directorate.
