Precautions to keep coronavirus at bay
ABU DHABI: Dr. Faisal Dalfi, Specialist, Internal Medicine at Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi gives tips to prevent contracting the coronavirus:
■ Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water for 20 seconds or use an alcohol based rub.
■ Cover your nose and mouth with a bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze.
■ Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth to prevent the virus from entering your body.
■ Keep at least 1-metre distance while on the street or in the supermarket.
■ Avoid crowded places and go out of the house, only if absolutely necessary.
■ The virus remains viable on metallic surface, cardboard as well as plastic, so please keep all surfaces clean in your home including door handles and handrails and follow hand hygiene. n Wear a surgical face mask.
■ Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Don’t smoke. n Drink lots of hot liquids like tea, coffee, soups, warm water and avoid eating and drinking cold things.
■ Gargle with an antiseptic and warm water daily.
■ Try to increase your Vitamin C and zinc intake. n Avoid contact with people over 60 years and those with a weak immune system, unless absolutely necessary.
■ Take a shower as soon as you come back from work and try to wash your clothes daily.
■ Get yourself checked for coronavirus if: a. If you have any symptoms like fever, dry cough, sore throat, breathing difficulty b. There is recent history of travel to any country or c. If you were in contact with a person who recently tested positive for coronavirus.
■ Stay home. Stay safe. Keep social distancing. And we can fight the coronavirus together.
