CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu officials on Thursday blamed the death of a patient at the isolation ward of Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital ( KGMCH) at Aasaripallam on Covid 19. The man of 40, was admitted with coronavirus symptoms, they said.

This is Tamil Nadu’s second coronavirus death. The report came as eight more patients — including four Indonesians — were tested positive for the virus in the state. The total number of positive cases in Tamil Nadu now stands at 26.

Officials at the KGMCH said the patient, a resident of Kodimunai village in Kanyakumari, returned to his native place from Kuwait on March 3. He was suffering from brain fever and liver disease, and was admitted to the corona ward in the hospital with cold and breathing problems on Wednesday.

He was quarantined and kept under observation, and his blood and swab samples were sent to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for analysis.

The patient died on Thursday morning even before the results of the samples were received.

On Wednesday morning reported the first death of a COVID-19 patient, a 54-year-old man from Madurai. Health Minister Dr C. Vijaybaskar in a tweet confirmed the death at Government Rajajai Hospital in Madurai early in the morning.

Another man, 73-year-old, died in the isolation ward on Wednesday at KGHCM. His blood and swab sample test results are awaited. The patient was undergoing treatment for cancer and was quarantined on Tuesday, after he developed breathing problems and cold.

Health minister C. Vijayabaskar said the COVID-19 control room was able to map out a clear cluster of infected cases and high-risk contacts in Vellore, Erode, Salem, Sivagangai and Dindigal. Among the clusters were four Indonesian nationals and their Chennai-based guide, said.

Meanwhile officials said one of the patients tested positive for coronavirus was all set to be discharged form the hospital after treatment. The patient, who travelled from Delhi and undergoing treatment at the Rajiv Gandi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) has tested negative after two mandatory tests and was recovering well.

He will be discharged in two days, marking the second positive tested patient to go home after a person from Kancheepuram who was confirmed positive, was discharged recently.

Vijayabaskar tweeted “TN’S second positive case for corona who travelled from Delhi & undergoing treatment in #RGGH is recovering well. He is declared corona negative after two subsequent mandatory tests. He will be discharged in 2 days.”
