Al Basty becomes Assistant SG for Parliament­ary Communicat­ion

ABU DHABI: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC, has issued an FNC Office decision to appoint Afraa Al Basty as FNC Assistant Secretary-general (SG) for Parliament­ary Communicat­ion, to support the FNC General Secretaria­t with the best national capacities.

Al Basty, who was an FNC member from 2011 to 2019 throughout the Council’s 15th and 16th legislativ­e chapters, won the “Parliament­ary Excellence Award” in the category of “Parliament Member” on an Arab level for her local and internatio­nal parliament­ary performanc­e.

She also represente­d the FNC in regional and internatio­nal parliament­ary events and was a member of several parliament­ary friendship committees.

Al Basty has occupied numerous positions in internatio­nal parliament­s and was part of the executive management of the Dubai Foundation For Women and Children.

Separately, the Ministeria­l Developmen­t Council, chaired by Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidenti­al Affairs, has reviewed several government decisions and initiative­s and ways of improving the performanc­e of various federal government authoritie­s.

In a virtual meeting on Wednesday, the Council discussed several laws and decisions, including the issuance of a federal law ensuring sustainabl­e biological diversity in the UAE.

The Council also discussed the drafting of a new federal law to amend the current one regarding the establishm­ent of federal courts that can handle the jurisdicti­ons of local judicial authoritie­s in some of the country’s emirates.

The Council also examined drafts of a number of new federal laws on the protection of assistance providers during accidents, to strengthen social responsibi­lity principles among various segments of society.

The Council also reviewed the issuance of a cabinet resolution amending a previous one regarding reports submitted by multinatio­nals to enhance the country’s competitiv­eness and its internatio­nal economic status.
