Sultan orders release of 108 prisoners on occasion of Eid
SHARJAH: His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has ordered the release of 108 prisoners from punitive and reformative institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah, for good conduct considerations on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr.
Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander in Chief of Sharjah Police, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation for the Sharjah Ruler’s humanitarian gesture to pardon the inmates, which stems from His Highness’ keenness to bring happiness to their families, assist the pardoned individuals to get a fresh start in life, and support them in reintegrating into the community.
Earlier, on the occasion of Ramadan, Sheikh Sultan had ordered the release of 369 prisoners from punitive and reformative institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah, for good conduct considerations.
The pardon came within the framework of the Sharjah Ruler’s keenness to give the pardoned prisoners a chance to start a new life, alleviate the suffering of their families, and to reintegrate them into society.
Majorgeneralsaifalzarialshamsi,commanderin-chief of the Sharjah Police, had thanked Sheikh Sultan for his generous initiative. He had expressed hopes that the initiative will urge the pardoned inmates to begin a new life with good behaviour.
Recently, the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation received Dhs3 million of financial support from the Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB).
The support will assist in carrying out the foundation’s educational and health programmes, such as releasing prisoners and paying their debts.
At the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the foundation launched a project to provide 4.5 million breakfast meals for workers in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, as well as a Mir Ramadan project, in cooperation with the Ministry of Community Development, which benefitted some 46,000 families nationwide.
The bank’s initiative is in line with the joint efforts of various national sectors, especially in light of the current crisis. Banks and financial institutions are among the leading funders of humanitarian and charitable programmes that benefit millions of people worldwide.
