UAE Cabinet forms team to study irrigation system
The team will research on ways of supplying farms around the UAE with water from new desalination stations being constructed by the Federal Electricity and Water Authority
The UAE Cabinet issued a resolution on the formation of a team to study ways of supplying farms around the UAE with water from new desalination stations being constructed by the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, FEWA.
The team will be led by Suhail Bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry, and comprising members of the FEWA, and the Office of the Minister of State for Food Security.
The resolution is part of the government’s strategic plan to strengthen the country’s food security and draft policies and enablers that will raise farm production, to meet the country’s demand for strategic food products and crops. The team will submit its suggestions within a month.
SHARJAH PROJECTS
The Sharjah Directorate of Public Works, SDPW, has completed two public service projects including a mosque and a public park in Al Riq Residential Area.
Chairman of SDPW Ali Saeed Bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi stressed that the implementation of the project comes within the framework of the SDPW’S endeavours to provide the necessary service facilities for the residents of Dibba Al Hisn and to contribute to driving economic growth and encouraging commercial activities as well providing the appropriate environment for them.
Director of SPWD Mohammed Bin Yarouf explained that the mosque, which is built on an area of 330 square metres, can accommodate about 800 worshippers.
The mosque has a 13-metre high minaret and includes ablution area for both men and women, facilities for people with disabilities and the elderly, as well as car parks.
The area of the public park is 25,000 square metres with playgrounds, green areas, walking path and other facilities to serve the families of Al Riq residential Area.
17,000 INSPECTIONS
Sharjah Municipality has conducted some 17,000 inspections across various establishments in the emirate during the first quarter of 2020.
In a press statement on Thursday, the municipality noted that it had intensified inspection efforts throughout Sharjah to ensure establishments comply with health and safety standards and regulations.
Inspections were carried out in restaurants, coffee shops, barber shops and beauty centres, to ensure precautionary safety and hygiene measures were implemented, it explained.
Sharjah Municipality Director-general Thabet Al Tarifi noted that the municipality’s inspections are part of its continued efforts to ensure that health standards and preventive measures are being carried out in establishments.
The municipality noted that the inspection visits are part its objectives, adding that it issues penalties against establishments that violate health and safety standards. Sharjah Municipality explained that its inspectors carry out their work ensuring precautionary health and safety measures and standards are being met by business establishments, adding that penalties issued are part of a list of infractions approved by the Sharjah Executive Council
For her part, Sheikha Shatha Al Mualla, Assistant Director-general of the Public Health and Central Laboratories Sector at Sharjah Municipality, stated that the municipality has intensified its inspection visits with around 17,000 inspections being made during the first quarter of 2020.
Other services provided by the municipality during the same period include licensing, shipment approvals, sample testing, training and awareness campaigns, she added.
RAK AWARD
The Environment Protection and Development Authority of Ras Al Khaimah, EPDA-RAK, has announced the winners of the first RAK Environmental Sustainability Award 2020.
The RAK Department of Economic Development won the honour in the government category while Utico, Total Water Management Solutions, bagged the prize for the private industrial sector category. Dr Saif Mohammed Al Ghais, DirectorGeneral of EPDA-RAK, stated that 14 local government entities and industrial companies had competed for the award.
