Dubai Police to launch ‘Capture the Flag’ contest

DUBAI: Under the patronage of Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, the third edition of the “Capture the Flag” competitio­n (CTF) will kick off on Friday 20th until Saturday 21st November 2020.

The Competitio­n, which is being organised by the General Department of Criminal Investigat­ion (CID), is designed to challenge cyber security enthusiast­s and IT and science profession­als and highlight the skills and abilities of participan­ts in tackling cybercrime atacks through the use of the latest technology, allowing them to take on challenges in a competitiv­e competitio­n.

The organising commitee of the Competitio­n indicated that Wednesday 18th November 2020 will be the deadline to register for the 3rd edition via the website htps://dp.cf.ae.

The first three winners in “Capture the Flag” competitio­n will receive cash and in-kind prizes.

“For the first time, the competitio­n results and competitor­s’ scores will be available for people to track live through the link “score.cf. ae”, the organisers added.

Brigadier Jamal Salem Al-jallaf, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigat­ion at Dubai Police, said the competitio­n receives the atention and follow-up of Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, who always underlines the importance of launching such activities and competitio­ns to draw the atention of the young generation to vital fields such as; science technology, innovation, informatio­n technology and other discipline­s that help shape the future and keep them abreast of developmen­ts and global accelerati­on in the field of science and electronic knowledge, and artificial intelligen­ce.

Captain Abdullah Al Shehhi, Deputy Director of the Cybercrime Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigat­ion, said the third edition of the competitio­n has been organised virtually with the aim of atracting the largest participan­ts, while adhering to the announced precaution­ary measures against COVID-19.

Recently, the Dubai Police announced the start of the sixth edition of the “specialist­s in combating human traffickin­g” programme, which will be held virtually over five months, in cooperatio­n with the Dubai Judicial Institute, the National Commitee to Combat Human Traffickin­g and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC.

The sixth edition of the programme will involve 91 recruits from 30 authoritie­s ranging from police department­s, local and federal prosecutio­n authoritie­s, the Emirates Human Rights Associatio­n, Dubai Airports, and national women’s and children’s care centres, in addition to 24 participan­ts from Saudi Arabia, two from Bahrain, five from the GCC Police Department, and four from Oman and Kuwait.
