Renowned Jetman Reffet dies in a training crash

DUBAI: French national Vince Reffet, part of the “Jetman” team, died in an accident in Dubai on Tuesday.

Vince wowed the world with his daredevil flights over the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, and an Emirates Jumbo jet.

Jetman Dubai said on its Instagram account, “It is with unimaginab­le sadness that we announce the passing of Jetman pilot Vincent (Vince) Reffet, who died this morning, 17 November during training in Dubai.

“Vince was a talented athlete, and a muchloved and respected member of our team. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who knew and worked with him.

“We are working closely with all relevant authoritie­s and ask that you please keep Vince’s family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Vincent was close to Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

Hamdan and Vincent made flights together. Sheikh Hamdan wrote on his Instagram, “We will miss you.”

Social media and adventure enthusiast­s flooded the platforms with condolence­s.

Shane Manning said, “No!!!! This can’t be real. RIP Vince. What an honour and a privilege it was to know you, work with you and see you fly! To his family and the whole Jetman team - my sincerest condolence­s…” Pál Takáts said, “No way... rest in peace bro…” Gilbert Pattiruhu said, “Oh my God, deepest condolence­s, rest in peace.”

Vitor Benassi said, “This is a huge loss for all of us here.... amazing athlete, amazing person…”

JD Hawk said, “Sorry for your loss :(“

He died while training in the deserts of Dubai.
