Massive yacht parade over sea waters salutes UAE flag

The UAE celebrated its 49th National Day with great fervour and gaiety all across the seven emirates on Tuesday. In Dubai, a massive yacht parade was organised to mark the event.

Around 11.30am, more than 20 yachts embarked on a cruise. The yachts went on a circular formation with the flag being hoisted in the middle from another yacht.

Residents on board the yachts had a spectacula­r view of the event.

The citizens and residents of the UAE have been urged to follow the precaution­ary measures during National Day celebratio­ns to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

A UAE flag was seen flutering at the sea as yachts moved past it.

The authoritie­s said to avoid large family gatherings with no more than 20 people at home for celebratio­ns, while adhering to safety guidelines.

Fireworks, a much-awaited atraction of festivals and key events, took place in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday evening.

In Abu Dhabi, fireworks started on Reem

Island and in Al Wathba at 9pm, for nearby residents to watch from their homes. Another fireworks display started on the Corniche at 9:25pm, and was broadcast live on Abu Dhabi TV and Emarat TV, as well as the UAE_BARQ official Instagram page.

In Al Ain, two open-air concerts will take place at Jahili Fort on 2 and 3 December, to be streamed live on Abu Dhabi Culture’s social channels.

SHARJAH CROWN PRINCE: On 2nd December, 1971, the dream of the Union was fulfilled, under the Founder, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his brothers, the Rulers of the Emirates, and hopes and aspiration­s of the people of the UAE were united in establishi­ng a modern state under one banner, stated H.H. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

In his speech on the occasion of the 49th National Day, Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi said, “On the 49th National Day of the UAE, we remember what the Founders built and their sincere desire to rebuild this good land, and we plant in the hearts of our children the thought that the country is the most valuable wealth.”

He emphasised that it is a few years in the age of countries, which is the age of the UAE, but it was full of achievemen­ts and bids in all fields and levels and in its relentless pursuit of developmen­t, urbanisati­on and human building.

UAE did not forget for a moment its role in championin­g Arab and Islamic causes and relieving the distressed in every corner of the earth.

Sheikh Abdullah Bin Salem Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, congratula­ted the leadership and people of the Emirates on the occasion.

In a speech, he said, “The anniversar­y of the establishm­ent of the Union is renewed on the day that the Founders, led by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, laid down solid founding rules that fulfil the nation’s aspiration­s according to a holistic vision based on serving people...the UAE union is an occasion unlike any other occasion, an occasion created by men and followed by men to complete the building of this country.”

In a separate unrealated devlopment the UN refugee Agency has commended the UAE for supporting humanitari­an efforts to airlit emergency aid and supplies to Ethiopian refugees in Sudan.

Spokespers­on of the United Nations High Commission­er for Refugees, UNHCR, Babar Baloch, told a news briefing in Geneva that a plane carrying 32 tons of UNHCR emergency aid from global

stockpile in Dubai landed in Khartoum on Friday. Another airlit is scheduled to leave Dubai on Monday with 100 tons of additional relief items. UNHCR’S global stockpile is hosted by the Internatio­nal Humanitari­an City in Dubai, IHC. ‘’In total, we plan to send four airlits,’’ he added.

The cargo included 5,000 blankets, 4,500 solar lamps, 2,900 mosquito nets, 200 plastic sheets and 200 plastic rolls. A second airlit will carry 1,275 family tents and 10 prefabrica­ted warehouses. This aid will meet the immediate shelter needs of more than 16,000 people.
