UAE envoy attends funeral of Russian ambassador

MOSCOW: Dr Mohammed Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Ambassador Extraordin­ary and Plenipoten­tiary to Russia, has participat­ed along with members of the embassy in the funeral ceremony of Sergey Kuznetsov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the UAE.

At the funeral, the ambassador conveyed the UAE’S condolence­s to the ambassador’s family and colleagues.

The funeral was atended by Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian President’s Representa­tive for the Middle East and Africa, and Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Commitee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on Internatio­nal Affairs.

Russian ambassador to th eu ae sergei ku zn et sov passed away on Jan.17 at the age of 67, as he had held the position of Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the UAE since April 2019.

Earlier, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent a message of condolence­s to President Vladimir Putin on the death of Kuznetsov.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also dispatched similar messages to the Russian President.

Recently, Russia has commended the decision of the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) to approve and register Russia’s Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use.

In a statement, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) said that the UAE’S registrati­on of the vaccine was part of the framework of the emergency use licencing procedures, and based on the results of the third phase of clinical tests carried out in Russia on 33,000 volunteers.

The statement added that the vaccine’s phase 3 clinical trial continues in the UAE with the participat­ion of more than 1,000 volunteers who received the first dose of the vaccine, under the supervisio­n of MOHAP and the Department of Health-abu Dhabi and thanks to the partnershi­p with Pure Health and Aurugulf Health Investment.
