PPP chairman asked to ‘show numbers’ to dislodge Imran

- Tariq Butt

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-nawaz (PML-N) says if Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhuto-zardari has “numbers” to dislodge Prime Minister Imran Khan through a vote of no-confidence, he should show them.

The PML-N and Jamiat Ulema-e-islam-fazl (JUI-F), the two major components of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) do not agree with their alliance partner, the PPP, on the question of moving a no-trust resolution against the premier.

PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal says that never in Pakistan’s history has a no-confidence motion been successful against any prime minister because the government of the day uses state machinery to foil such a move.

The PPP says it is commited to the collective decision of the PDM. Different proposals in the PDM meeting had been discussed but ater detailed deliberations the collective decisions were taken that all the component parties were bound to follow.

Regarding Bilawal’s suggestion about the no-confidence motion, a PPP leader said it was mentioned as one of the options besides resignations of lawmakers from assemblies and long march in the resolution of the All Parties Conference, hosted by the PPP that had formed the PDM.

PPP parliamentary leader in the Senate Sherry Rehman, she said Bilawal has certainly not distanced either himself or the party from the PDM or its roadmap of rallies and protests against “selected government”.

She said the PPP in fact is hosting one of the upcoming rallies. “The propaganda against the PPP won’t create rits nor divert focus from PDM goals or unity,” she said adding that the PPP commited to the PDM’S collective decisions.

In a separate development, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has sent a leter to Imran Khan protesting what he said insulting behaviour of Federal Minister Ali Zaidi in the last meeting of Karachi Transformation Commitee (KTC).

Responding, Zaidi said the leter in question showed mala fide intent and arrogance of Shah and revealed that no movement on the ground has taken place on Karachi’s basic civic issues.
