Move uplifts Arabic language worldwide

SHARJAH: The Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah ( ALA) received a delegation from the Sharjah Consultati­ve Council (SCC)’S Commitee on Education, Youth, Culture and Informatio­n, on Tuesday.

Dr. Mohammedsa­fialmosteg­hanemi,secretaryG­eneral of the Arabic Language Academy (ALA), received the delegation, which was led by Dr. Hamid Jassim Al-suwaiji Al-zaabi, Chairperso­n of the Commitee, alongside Commitee members Aisha Bukhatir Al Shamsi, Dr. Abdulrahma­n Al-yassi, Talib Al-bali Al-dhahouri, Nabila Al-hammadi, Sheikha Bin Al-juwaiid, and Islam Al-shewi.

The council delegation was received by Dr. Muhammad Safi Al Mostaghane­mi, Secretary General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, Khalid Bin Buti Al Hajri, Director General of Sharjah University City, and a number of researcher­s and employees from the Academy.

The meeting aimed to enhance cooperatio­n and coordinati­on between the two sides and discussed opportunit­ies for future collaborat­ion.

The SCC delegation was briefed on ALA’S programmes and activities, including the progress on the Historical Corpus of the Arabic Language — the first-of-its-kind project to chronicle the journey of the Arabic language across 17 centuries that was launched by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. ALA released the first eight volumes compiled as part of the project In November last year.

Later, the SCC delegation was given a tour of the Academy, which also houses the Arabic Language Centre that offers free language courses to non-arabic speakers.

Al Mosteghane­mi thanked the delegation for their visit, adding that ALA is considered a new beacon of science and research in Sharjah that plays a vital role in supporting Arab language and scientific academies globally. He stressed its pivotal role in implementi­ng the Historical Corpus project and building cultural bridges with linguistic researcher­s worldwide.

For their part, the SCC delegation lauded the ongoing efforts of ALA and the critical role it plays in propagatin­g and enriching the Arabic language. It also hailed the Academy’s accomplish­ments under the directives of His Highness Sheikh.

The Arabic Language Academy (ALA) is an academic entity affiliated to the Sharjah Government. Its core functions include supporting the work of Arabic language academies across the Arab and Islamic worlds, and promoting linguistic research and cross-cultural dialogue worldwide.
