FLOUTING SAFETY NORMS

-

In line with the ongoing health concerns with respect to COVID-19, I fail to understand why there are still some establishment that are very lax when it comes to adhering to COVID protocols.

We live in a country where stringent laws are put in place to curb the spread of the virus but there are many who give a deaf ear. Those walking around in public with the mask not properly covering the nose and mouth, others not maintaining social distancing, but the worst offender are establishments flouting rules. To make maters worse, winter is the time when people are more likely to be down with flu and related ailments.

By now most of us are well aware of what a COVID is and how it spreads. And the worrying thing is that infections are rising, which means we have to be extra cautious.

My personal view is that the spread of the virus is curtailed if employees in the private and public sector work from home. We also see more productivity among employees working from home. It also helps minimize the exposure to the public outdoors, traffic is avoided and that time can be spent wisely. Now is also the time to work smart.

Furthermore, to ensure the highest safety practices in the country, more surprise visits should be made to establishments, cafes, restaurants, metro station, etc. There may also be a need to continue with the sanitization practices like before. Punitive measures are put in place with heavy fines being laid out and it needs to continue till we get back to normalcy.

Geting people to follow safety protocols during this pandemic will help get the economy running much earlier than expected. If everyone adheres to the rules, the whole society benefits from it. However, if one person bends the rules for their own merit, others follow suit and the system falls apart and everyone is worse off. If this happens we will not be able to get rid of the virus.

The government is doing its best to reign in the virus. It’s up to us, the citizens and residents, to abide by the health protocols. Let’s cooperate.
