Driver jailed for embezzling Dhs30,000

DUBAI: An Asian driver was arrested and prosecuted along with 3 other accomplice­s, for stealing two fuel cards from petrol station customers and using them to embezzle Dhs30,000.

The incident took place during last September, when an employee of a ship-repair company noticed the disappeara­nce of fuel cards used by the company’s vehicles.

Referringb­acktorecor­ds,henoticedt­hatthecard­s were used 268 times for an amount of Dhs29,700. According to his testimony, the accountant tracked the purchase list and learnt that the first card was used 125 times, while the other was used 143 times by three workers.

The defendants were arrested by police and admited that the driver was the one who handed them the stolen cards to use them when customers ask for fuel and take their money in cash to split it.

Official records point out that an argument had brokenoutb­etweenthed­efendantan­dthetwofem­ale victims during their shit at a restaurant in Dubai.

The victims testified that on the day ater their argument with the defendant, they ran across him near their workplace and he screamed at them with a clear threat saying, “If you go to the police, I will kill you both.” The victims took the death threat seriously and headed to the police station to file a report against him.

He was then placed in custody and trialled to receive legal punishment for terrifying the two innocent female victims.
