ABU DHABI: On Sunday, Abu Dhabi private schools adopting the Ministry of Education curriculum will resume the third and final semester of the 2020-2021 academic year, for all students and administrative, technical and teaching bodies.

The Ministry of Education said, “The third semester will follow the hybrid education system. The option of complete remote education will be available to students who want to receive their lessons online and do not wish to atend school.”

Private schools in Abu Dhabi have repeatedly called on parents wishing to change the education system of their children to inform the class teacher or email the school before the end of the spring break so that they can brief them on the details of the revised schedule and the changes made on the e-learning plaform.

The schools also indicated that students who atend hybrid education would continue within their previous groups without change, while sibling students are allowed to atend and leave at the time of the youngest, in the event of a difference in the time of atendance and departure.

The schools have also set two conditions for students’ return to classes: first is that students over 12 must submit a negative PCR test result.

“Some schools have provided families with the option of remote education for their children during Ramadan only, provided that students complete the semester within the classes,” the schools reported.

Private schools have also made work plans to receive students. These plans include a comprehensive daily cleaning and disinfection of the facilities, providing places for washing and sterilising hands in school buildings and on school buses, providing napkins and sanitisers, disinfecting surfaces, door handles, stairs, cleaning and sterilising toilets every hour, in addition to providing a nurse or certified medical specialist in the school, and a quarantine room for students and staff with symptoms of COVID-19.

The Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi called on all private school administrations to ensure that all employees, teachers and students had been submited to COVID-19 test, noting that the terms for reopening schools required formation of a working group to follow up on all the developments of the virus, to conduct a general evaluation, to conduct individual risk evaluation for all students of determination, and ensure that all school licences, along with employees, and their health insurance are valid.
