Harry, William talk for first time since Oprah show

-

WINDSOR: Meghan, the wife of Britain’s Prince Harry, watched the funeral of Prince Philip at her home in California on Saturday ater she was advised by her doctor not to travel while pregnant, a source familiar with the situation said.

Prince Harry, who flew from the United States to atend the funeral, walked and talked with his brother William and wife Kate at the end of the service - the first time they have spoken in public since Harry and his wife Meghan gave an explosive interview to Oprah Winfrey last month.

That crisis came as Philip lay in hospital. Officially known as the Duke of Edinburgh, Philip died aged 99 on April 9.

Harry has had to quarantine since arriving from Los Angeles.

The brothers, who as young boys walked behind their mother’s coffin at her funeral in 1997, followed the procession on foot, but not side-by-side.

Between them was their cousin, Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips, 43, which has only fuelled further media rumours of the rit, even if it reflected royal protocol.

The source said Meghan, known officially as the Duchess of Sussex, had hoped to atend the funeral but she was not cleared for travel by her physician.

Much media atention will focus on the royals’ behaviour towards Harry.

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, switly stepped away to allow the brothers to talk further. It was not possible to hear what they were saying.

Harry and Meghan also provided a wreath that included flowers such as the national flower of Greece to represent Philip’s heritage, and Sea Holly to reflect his ties to the navy. The card was handwriten by Meghan.

“He was authentically himself, with a seriously sharp wit, and could hold the atention of any room due to his charm and also because you never knew what he might say next,” Harry said earlier this week of his grandfather.

The funeral, that was held at the St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle where Harry and

Meghan married in 2018, marked the first time the prince has met his family since the couple gave an explosive interview to Oprah Winfrey in March.

In it they accused one unnamed royal of making a racist remark and said Meghan’s pleas for help when she felt suicidal had been ignored.

Meghan said she had been silenced by “the Firm” while Harry said his father, Charles, had refused to take his calls. Harry said both Charles and his brother William were trapped in the royal family.

Harry and Meghan moved to Los Angeles and quit royal duties last year.
