In their endeavour to cement bilateral corporation and enhance the exchange of best policing practices, the Dubai Police and the State Secretariat for Security of Spain are organising a design thinking virtual workshop on the 21st of April 2021.

According to Brigadier Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi, Director General of the General Department of Artificial Intelligence at Dubai Police, the three-hour workshop is organised under the directives of Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, and is aimed at maintaining strong, active, and vital communication channels between the Dubai Police and the world’s best police agencies.

“The workshop is in line with UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence and the UAE Centennial 2071 in forecasting future challenges and opportunities especially those posed by modern and rapid technological developments”. “It is organised in the background of great policing challenges and breakthroughs all around the world, and it will hopefully provoke a spirited debate and highlight some innovative solutions,” said Al Razooqi.

Al Razooqi explained that the virtual workshop would feature three discussion panels covering the topics of Improving Emergency Digital Services for Customers; Digitizing Services to Improve Customers Journey; and Utilising Emerging Technologies such as AI, Blockchain, RPA, and IOT in policing.

UNIQUE SERVICES & INITIATIVES: Colonel Hareb Al Shamsi, Assistant Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police for Administrative Affairs, said they would showcase the Oyoon (Arabic for ‘eyes’) Surveillance Programme, which Dubai Police has introduced in collaboration with its strategic partners. This sophisticated, Ai-based advanced surveillance programme utilises data analytics to prevent crimes and respond quickly to emergencies. It also helps reduce traffic accident deaths and congestion.

“All cameras in Dubai are linked to one central command room, providing a fast response to crimes, security breaches and traffic issues.

Oyoon also enables Dubai Police to digitally tail criminals around the city just by uploading a mugshot into a database,” Al Shamsi concluded.

Meanwhile, Hessa Al Balooshi, Director of Smart Applications Department of the General Department of Artificial Intelligence at Dubai Police, said the Department spares no effort in seizing every opportunity to upgrade its services and applications to provide a seamless and unique customer experience. She confirmed the Department keenness on sharing their best practices with their Spanish counterparts. “The workshop will feature Dubai Police Smart App along with some case studies from Dubai Police including the customers’ journey in reporting criminal cases where Dubai Police has succeeded in digitising all relevant procedures to minimise the journey to only 15 minutes,” Al Balooshi added.

Al Balooshi further noted that Dubai Police participation would include top-notch projects and initiatives such as the Smart Police Station (SPS), which is recognised by the Guinness World Records as the first fully interactive and unmanned police stations. “The SPS reflects Dubai Police’s keenness on providing unique and advanced policing services to community members,” “The SPS is open 24/7 to offer 27 vital services in seven different languages, such as reporting crimes and paying traffic fines, as well as further 33 community-based services,” Al Balooshi said.

SPANISH STATE SECRETARIAT FOR SECURITY: The Spanish team will be led by Francisco A. Batuecas, Head of Facilities and Security Information and Communication Technologies in the Sub-general Department for Information and Communications Systems for Security. During the design thinking virtual workshop, Batuecas will address ways of improving Alertcops based on Dubai Police app and focus on different work areas: Functionalities available and new and convenient functionalities to integrate in the future, as well as functionalities that are not feasible due to legal or technical issues. Likewise, he will show the different functionalities the Spanish team is developing related to Alertcops in order to offer a beter service to Spanish citizens.
