No COVID-19 deaths among the vaccinated in Abu Dhabi
ADPHC study finds the efficacy of vaccination in preventing hospitalisation around 93%, while the efficacy of vaccination in reducing the need to be admited to an ICU is 95%
Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) conducted a study, which found a significant decrease in the rate of COVID-19 infection ater receiving a second vaccine dose, and affirmed that in the event of an infection, a patient has mild symptoms and does not require admission to hospital or ICU (Intensive Care Unit).
The study found the efficacy of vaccination in preventing hospitalisation around 93 per cent, while the efficacy of vaccination in reducing the need to be admited to an ICU is 95 per cent. The study found no deaths related to COVID-19 have been recorded in patients who received all doses required.
The study stated that immunity against COVID-19 is best achieved through vaccination and adhering to precautionary measures, and is multifaceted and not limited to the presence of antibodies. The study also found that immunity is not guaranteed ater infection.
The study found that the risk of contracting COVID-19 increases as the virus mutates, and that the chances of the virus mutating increase with its spread. There is also a possibility that the infection may lead to long-term health complications.
The health authorities have urged everyone to follow all the precautionary measures.
The experts said, “Avoid physical contact, including shaking hands, hugging, or kissing when greeting, and only wave your hand from a sufficient distance of not less than two metres when greeting.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has announced that 45,005 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered in the past 24 hours.
The total number of doses provided up to Monday stands at 9,675,205 with a rate of vaccine distribution of 97.82 doses per 100 people.
The vaccination drive is in line with the ministry’s plan to provide the vaccine to all members of society and acquire immunity, which will help reduce the number of cases and control the spread of the virus.
The ministry announced that it conducted 141,862 additional COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours, using state-of-the-art medical testing equipment.
In a statement on Monday, the ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment.
As part of its intensified testing campaign, MOHAP announced 1,803 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 498,957.
According to the ministry, the infected individuals are from various nationalities, are in a stable condition, and receiving the necessary care.
MOHAP also announced two deaths due to COVID-19 complications, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 1,556.
The ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and wished COVID-19 patients a speedy and full recovery.
It called on all members of the society to cooperate with health authorities, adhere to the instructions and physical distance to ensure the health and safety of all.
MOHAP also noted that an additional 1,760 individuals had fully recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 481,326.
Earlier, Dr Farida Al Hosani, Official Spokesperson of the UAE Health Sector and Director of the Communicable Diseases Department of the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), said that the types of vaccines available in the country are among the best in the world, noting that the UAE aims to enlarge the scope of people taking the vaccine to reach acquired immunity, which will reduce infections.
Al Hosani was speaking during a discussion session on the coronavirus (pandemic organised by the Ministry of Justice via video conferencing, in cooperation with the ADPHC. The session was moderated by Chancellor Saud Buhindi, Deputy Chairman of the Ministry of Justice Youth Council.
At the start of the session, Judge Dr Saeed Ali Bahbouh Al Naqbi, Acting Under-secretary of the Ministry of Justice, said that the UAE is a successful model of addressing the coronavirus pandemic, due to the vision and unlimited support of its leadership while expressing the appreciation of the Ministry of Justice and its employees to Dr Al Hosani for her significant efforts.
