Asian cook jailed for being accomplice in theft

DUBAI: The Dubai Criminal Court imprisoned an Asian cook for a year, to be followed by deportatio­n and fined Dhs86,000 on charges of using a no-objection certificat­e and another person’s ID card for fabricatin­g a bus key owned by a contractin­g company to steal it and sell it conniving with a compatriot.

The case dates back to last January, when a human resources manager at a contractin­g company filed a report stating that a bus had been stolen from the company’s yard.

The manager testified in the interrogat­ions that they did not need the bus since the driver let the country, and that they discovered it had disappeare­d. He added it was located by a tracking device installed inside it, where it was found without its plates and the company sticker. They consequent­ly informed the police.

A policeman said the investigat­ion team collected evidence and then arrested the convict who confessed to stealing the bus at night ater copying its key and handing it over to a compatriot.

ARAB EMPLOYEE PUT BEHIND BARS IN ROBBERY CASE: The Dubai Criminal Court imprisoned an Arab employee for 6 months, to be followed by deportatio­n ater serving the jail term, on charges of atempting to steal Dhs8,800 and a phone from a store manager ater threatenin­g him with a knife.

According to the case papers which date back to last February, the convict broke into a store and threatened an accountant with a knife to seize money from the money box.

The manager testified in the interrogat­ions that he heard the screams of the accountant and saw the convict threatenin­g her with a knife to force her to open the money box so she fled the scene in fear.

He added that he atempted to resist the convict, pushing him outside the store, but the later threatened him with a knife, seized his phone, destroyed the money box from which he stole Dhs8,800, and fled from the store.

The store security guard arrested him and informed the police.

A policeman stated that he arrived at the store ater receiving a report about the incident and saw the convict with a knife in his hand trying to escape but he arrested him.

The store cameras revealed the convict, threatenin­g the accountant with a knife, assaulting the manager and destroying his phone, before stealing money from the box ater destroying it.
