-

DUBAI: Fasting frontliners have been given Itar meals as part of the Dubai Traffic Police initiative to thank the nation’s heroes who keep us safe against COVID-19.

The initiative team members have been distributing 500 Itar meals on a daily basis to frontliners across the emirate as part of an Itar project that reflects the noble values of Islam and solidarity of all the UAE society in the holy month of Ramadan.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Saeed Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, stated that they launched the initiative per the directives of Commanderin-chief of Dubai Police Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al-marri, who ordered the force to show full support to the members of the first line of defence, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Every day during the Holy Month of Ramadan, a single shot is fired at the time of Itar and two shots are fired to mark the start of the Holy Month and the commencement of Eid.

Dubai Police have been making the final arrangements and remain on standby to fire the cannon that will announce the sighting of the new crescent and the start of Ramadan, as is tradition since the early 1960s.

Major Abdullah Tarish Al Amimi, Commander of the Artillery Unit in the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency, said that the cannon have been set up in six different locations across the emirates. Including Atlantis -the Palm, Al Salam Masjid in Al Barsha, Burj

Khalifa, Al Mamzar Beach, Al Habbai Mosque in Al Khawaneej, and the praying ground in Al Mankhool.

Al Amimi pointed out that the Dubai Police strives to keep the tradition alive as the shooting of cannon reminds people of the time they could end their fasts.

Recently, Major General Ali Abdullah Bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-chief of the

Ras Al Khaimah Police and Head of the Local Emergency Crisis and Disaster Team in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, announced a set of precautionary measures during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Major General Al Nuaimi said that these decisions include restrictions on family or institutional Itar tents and public gatherings for Itar banquets, offering or distributing Itar meals in front of restaurants, at assembly points, in front of homes and mosques or through vehicles and other means.
