Police bust 39 Ramadan gatherings in Abu Dhabi
ABU DHABI: Since the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan Abu Dhabi Police have busted 39 gatherings that were in violations of precautionary measures to limit the spread of coronavirus in the country.
Abu Dhabi Police have referred the cases to the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Prosecution for further procedures.
The Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Prosecution and Abu Dhabi Police have called on the public to adhere to the preventive measures issued by the competent authorities to limit the spread of COVID-19 disease.
It is to be noted that it is illegal to host Iftar parties or gatherings as per the directives issued by the health authorities and there is a penalty of Dhs10,000 for the host and Dhs5,000 fine for each participants for flouting the restrictions set for parties and gathering.
Abu Dhabi Police explained that some societal behaviours and traditions associated with the Holy Month of Ramadan have become, in light of the current health conditions, a grave danger to the health and safety of community members.
The Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Prosecution and the Abu Dhabi Police have affirmed the importance of all community members coming together to support the efforts of the competent authorities to combat the spread of infection.
Abu Dhabi Police have called on the public to to report any gatherings or violations of the instructions issued by the official authorities and on the toll-free number 8002626 or send text messages at 2828 or email to Aman@ adpolice.gov.ae.
Recently, Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee in collaboration with the Department of Health — Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, had approved general preventive measures during the Holy Month of Ramadan in Abu Dhabi, to protect public health and preserve the safety of all members of society.
The measures include the mandatory wearing of face masks in public, especially near individuals from vulnerable groups; avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth before washing hands; and covering the mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and disposing of it immediately after use.
It also includes regularly sanitising hands with an alcohol-based disinfectant or washing well with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched items and surfaces, and keeping a physical distance of at least two metres.
