DUBAI: The Dubai Public Prosecution referred two Asian security guards to the Criminal Court for stealing equipment worth Dhs1,156,000 from a company in Dubai.

Official records indicate that the construction company’s head of security had noticed the long absence of the two defendants, who he tried to contact, but their numbers were switched off.

He headed to the site assigned for them to guard and discovered that the place was robbed of all equipment.

The company’s legal adviser investigated and found out that the suspects had fled the country 10 days before the robbery was discovered.

The defendants stole the equipment and sold them for cash.

The first defendant’s manager contacted him through Whatsapp, and the defendant confessed to commiting the robbery and provided a picture of a vehicle’s plate number, which was used to transfer the equipment.

Police investigated and located the buyer who admited to purchasing the stolen equipment, and was placed under arrest to be prosecuted.

Separately, the Dubai Public Prosecution referred an African gang of 7 men to the Criminal Court, for robbing an Asian employee of a money bag which had Dhs125,000.

During January 2020, the victim filed a robbery report, and testified that he visited a bank to withdraw money and was followed by a gang who atacked and robbed him.

Upon his testimony, the victim withdrew Dhs110,000 and put it inside a bag which already contained Dhs15,000, four chequebooks, a passport and a phone.

He then drove to a nearby shopping mall and was suddenly approached by two of the defendants in the parking lot.

Unexpectedly, one of the defendants slapped the victim and grabbed the bag, while the other restrained his movement until the robbery was completed.

They both fled towards a vehicle that was waiting for them. Ater police were alerted to the robbery, they tracked the vehicle used by the defendants and found that it belonged to a car rental shop.

The defendant who rented the vehicle was identified and police discovered that he was running the gang to track bank customers and rob them.

The gang members were arrested from different emirates, and two were captured with Dhs10,000 and Dhs50,000 from the robbery split.

The defendants confessed to commiting several similar robberies, and admited to distributing roles among each of them.
