Dr Abdalla Hamdok, Prime Minister of Sudan, has commended the UAE’S stance in support of his country in international fora and the nation’s continuous efforts to make the transitional period a success.
During his meeting with Hamad Muhammad Hamid Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Sudan, Dr Hamdok praised the outstanding ties between the two brotherly countries.
The meeting touched on bilateral relations between the two countries and means to further develop them across various aspects.
The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has enlarged the scope of beneficiaries for donations of Ramadan Mir in Sudan from Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and Honorary Chairperson of the ERC, the “Mother of the UAE”.
The ERC began distributing food aid to beneficiaries and dispatched relief convoys from the capital, Khartoum, to several Sudanese provinces, under the management of the UAE Embassy.
Sheikha Fatima ordered the provision of urgent humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people to meet the Ramadan needs of thousands of families in Khartoum, West Darfur, North Kordofan, Kasla, the Nile Province, Jazirah and the Northern Province.
She also instructed the ERC to provide for the needs of fasting people during the Holy Month of Ramadan, especially families affected by the current health crisis, as well as to intensify its efforts to address the humanitarian, social and economic challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In implementation of the directives of Sheikha Fatima, the ERC sent three planes from Abu Dhabi to Khartoum Airport carrying hundreds of tonnes of basic food supplies for people fasting during Ramadan.
Hamad Mohammed Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Sudan, highlighted the embassy’s keenness to distribute Ramadan Mir to beneficiary families and commended the efforts of the teams responsible for distributing aid in response to Sheikha Fatima’s directives. He also lauded the cooperation of beneficiary provinces and relevant authorities.
Several beneficiaries thanked Sheikha Fatima for supporting the Sudanese people.
The UAE on Tuesday sent an aid plane containing 50 metric tonnes of food to Sudan as part of its humanitarian initiatives during the Holy Month of Ramadan to meet the needs of thousands of families with limited income. This comes against the backdrop of ongoing efforts to assist those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hamad Mohammed Humaid Al Junaibi said, “The UAE and Sudan share close historical and fraternal ties in all fields, and Sudan was one of the first countries to receive assistance sent by the UAE as part of its efforts to combat COVID-19. The first shipment of medical assistance was sent in April last year, and many medical shipments were sent in recent months, amounting to 100 metric tonnes.”
“The UAE established the Sheikh Mohammed
Bin Zayed Field Hospital in Darfur, which has 208 beds to treat COVID-19 patients in Sudan. The hospital contains all the necessary medical equipment and supplies. This reflects the strong and distinguished relations between the two countries, as well as the UAE’S keenness to continue to support Sudan’s health sector and provide direct assistance to frontline healthcare workers as they work to contain the pandemic.”
Last year, the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, intensified its humanitarian and development efforts in Sudan and enlarged the scope of its relief operations to include most provinces facing humanitarian challenges.
This move is in implementation of the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and with the monitoring of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the ERC.
