ABU DHABI: The Emergency Crisis and Disaster Prosecution at the UAE Public Prosecution ordered the imprisonment of two young men for violating the preventive and precautionary measures in force against COVID-19.

Within the efforts made by the authorities in the country to curb the spread of COVID-19, and to monitor the community members’ commitment to the measures in force, the Abu Dhabi Police monitored the video of two young men as they entered a mall in the emirate and photographed themselves without face masks.

Moreover, they were wearing the electronic tracking device for quarantine.

They were proud of their lack of compliance with the health and preventive measures imposed on them.

Legal measures were immediately taken against them and they were detained pending investigation.

In February, two men were arrested for violating COVID-19 precautionary measures under similar circumstances. The men were investigated on charges of “endangering the health of others and violating the preventive measures to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus.”

In a video clip which was shared online, one of the defendants appears to be wandering in a public place ater revealing his positive test result on his mobile phone. The second filmed the incident and posted it on social media.

Ater monitoring the video clip, officials were able to identify the defendants and make the arrests in accordance with legally established procedures.

The Public Prosecution said firm action will be taken against those who behave in a way which disregards the health and safety of others or neglect to adhere to the precautionary measures set to curb the spread of the virus.
