The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) distributed Eid clothing among orphan children registered with it to bring joy and happiness to their hearts, and to ensure their needs are met before Eid Al Fitr.

ERC indicated that 14,666 children benefited from its Eid clothing programme. The distribution of Eid clothing among orphans was carried out in accordance with precautionary measures in light of combating the spread of COVID-19, in order to preserve the safety of the recipients and those in charge of the distribution.

In an effort to continue bringing joy to the hearts of needy families with the advent of Eid Al Fitr, ERC in Dubai distributed Eid sweets among needy families and orphans.

It explained that the value of Eid clothing for orphans amounted to Dhs40, pointing to the availability of various channels for benefactors to contribute to supporting and sponsoring orphans. ERC receives donations through its 170 sites nationwide, its website, smart application, its Whatsapp number, SMS, bank deposits, and cash donation boxes.

Recently, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), affirmed that the UAE is among the most efficient countries in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic for the second year in a row and containing its spread at the local and international levels.

Sheikh Hamdan said that the state’s handling of the repercussions of the pandemic confirmed that it has effective and practical solutions in cases of emergency crises and has a great capacity to confront humanitarian, health and other developments, thanks to the proactive plans and strategies that have been developed within a comprehensive vision to enhance response and protection and provide greater care for both Emiratis and residents in all circumstances and conditions.

Sheikh Hamdan said in a statement on the occasion of Zayed Humanitarian Day, which falls on 19th of Ramadan, that the role of the UAE in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic was not limited to the domestic front, but extended beyond its borders and realised early on its duty towards the various countries of the world that face tremendous challenges due to the outbreak of the pandemic.

The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) launched a relief programme aimed at intensifying its response to the humanitarian crisis in Somalia, as part of the UAE’S relief and development initiatives in the country.

The programme involves the establishment of an aid air bridge that consists of four planes carrying hundreds of tonnes of basic food and humanitarian supplies to support the Somalian people.

Two planes loaded with humanitarian aid recently arrived in Somalia, and a food aid distribution process was well in place before the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan, to benefit people in Jubaland, Puntland and Somaliland, under the direct supervision of the ERC’S office in the country.

Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, SecretaryGeneral of the ERC, stressed that Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is closely monitoring the implementation of the programme, which is part of the UAE’S continuing efforts to support Somalia and its people.

The ERC is exerting significant efforts to achieve the required changes in several Somali provinces that are the most affected by the current humanitarian conditions, he added, while pointing out that the UAE has always been keen to improve the country’s humanitarian conditions, under the framework of its role in providing humanitarian support around the world without discrimination.

The ERC’S office in Somalia will oversee the distribution of the aid to beneficiaries in various regions of Somalia, he further added, noting that it drated a plan to provide aid to beneficiaries before Ramadan.

The rest of the air bridge will travel to Somalia this week, he said in conclusion.

An earlier report said the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has started providing urgent humanitarian aid during the Holy Month of Ramadan to thousands of families in Khartoum, West Darfur, North Kordofan, Kassala, River Nile and Gezira and Northern.
