ABU DHABI: President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 855 prisoners serving various sentences in the UAE, ahead of Eid Al Adha.

Sheikh Khalifa’s annual pardon ahead of Eid Al Adha aims to enhance family cohesion and bonds, brings about happiness to mothers and children and provides released prisoners with an opportunity to rethink their future and return to the righteous path to lead successful social and professional lives.

MEDAL OF INDEPENDENCE: In a separate development, President Sheikh Khalifa has conferred the Medal of Independence of the First Order on Elisabeth Cardoso, Ambassador of Luxembourg to the UAE, on the occasion of the end of her tenure in the country.

Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State, presented the medal to Cardoso during their meeting on Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi.

Al Sayegh praised the ambassador’s work and valued the bilateral relations between the UAE and Luxembourg, and thanked her for the efforts in strengthening ties during her tenure in the country.

The ceremony was atended by a number of senior officials.

FREE PARKING: In an unrelated development, the emirate of Sharjah has announced free public parking for motorists during the three-day Eid Al Adha holidays. Free parking is not applicable on Arafat Day.

Residents can avail the offer from July 20-22, from 10 to 12 Zul Hijjah.

Sharjah Municipality said on social media that all parking meters would be active from Monday (July 19).

The authorities announced that Blue Board’s 7-day paid parking zone would be active during the holiday period.

Residents have been urged to avoid fines by paying atention to the parking signs during these holidays.
