ISLAMABAD: The Bahawalpur police claim to have detained a suspect, who had allegedly indulged in obscene acts at the statue of hockey legend Samiullah Khan in Model Town area of the city, and uploaded a video clip of the activity on social media.

Police said one Nauman alias Naumi, a resident of Kahrorepucca, who runs a rent-a-car business in Bahawalpur, has been arrested for doing obscene acts at the statue.

When the suspect uploaded a video clip of his obscene acts on social media, the district police officer of Bahawalpur took notice and ordered his arrest. Then the Cantonment police station, using geo-fencing technology and CCTV camera footage, traced the culprit.

The accused is also being interrogated in connection with the thet of the hockey stick and the ball atached to the statue. Police believed that Nauman was involved in the thet.

One Malik Salman Awan had got registered an FIR with Cantonment police against an unidentified person for stealing the statue’s hockey stick and ball. Cantonment Board Executive Officer Rana Ramiz Shafqat had also sought registration of a case regarding the thet.

Police said that a second FIR of the same incident could not be registered, so police were investigating the mater on the basis of the previous report.
