Over 20,000 visit EPAA centres in Sharjah

SHARJAH: EPAA received 20,103 visitors during the Eid Al-adha holiday across its 10 centres which are Arabia’s Wildlife Centre that registered the highest visitors number of (5,823) visitors, Children’s Farm, Natural History and Botanical Museum, Khor Kalba Mangrove Centre, Islamic Botanical Garden, Al Hefaiyah Mountain Conservati­on Centre, Wasit Wetland Centre, Buhais Geology Park, Al Dhaid Wildlife Centre, and finally Kalba Bird of Prey Centre.

Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperso­n of the Environmen­t and Protected Areas Authority, said: “These centres have a vital role in promoting awareness among residents, visitors and the general public about important environmen­tal issues through their various activities and programs, providing everyone not just a wealth of knowledge, but an enjoyable destinatio­n that attracts families from all corners of the world.”

Al Suwaidi stressed that all centres followed strict protocols for safety and security, in light of the present circumstan­ces, and implemente­d all necessary measures such as limited daily capacity, and strict monitoring and observance of all procedures in cooperatio­n with the Sharjah Police and supporting organisati­ons and volunteers.

Besides being attractive tourist hotspots, the centres made sure they organised entertainm­ent and educationa­l activities that enriched the experience and knowledge of the visitors about the environmen­t; and encouraged their participat­ion to emphasise the importance of community involvemen­t in the preservati­on and protection of the environmen­t.

Among the most important centres of the Authority are the Wasit Wetland Centre, the Kalba Bird of Prey Centre and the Al Hefaiyah Mountain Conservati­on Centre. The learning centres provide visitors with a unique scientific experience, represente­d in educationa­l and entertainm­ent complexes. Visitors to the learning centres are given educationa­l tours through entertaini­ng means to get to know the centres’ various sections. These centres are distinct scientific landmarks for people and an opportunit­y to learn about various natural sciences.

Buhais Geology Park aims to revive the ancient and rich geological history of Sharjah and introduce visitors to the geological history of the emirate. The Park is considered one of the pioneering projects in this field. As for the Al Dhaid Wildlife Centre, it is one of the most important specialise­d centres that displays wildlife images in a realistic, interactiv­e manner, and provides visitors with a wonderful opportunit­y to learn about desert life and the wildlife that inhabits it.
