Rain hits UAE, temperatur­e may go up

ABU DHABI: Several parts of the country witnessed rain of varying degrees of intensity on Friday aternoon, ranging from light to medium and sometimes heavy, due to an extension of a surface low-pressure system. This was accompanie­d by an extension of an upper air low pressure, according to the National Centre of Meteorolog­y ( NCM).

Teiba area in Fujairah witnessed light rain that start at 2.30pm, while scatered areas in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, including Masafa and Dibba and Manama in Ajman witnessed medium rain. The Maliha road in Sharjah witnessed heavy rain, the NCM said.

The lowest temperatur­e recorded over the country on Friday morning was 24.5°C in Jebel Jais ( Ras Al Khaimah) at 5.30am local time, while the highest was 47.7°C that was recorded in Jaisoura area (Al Dhafa Region) at 3:45pm, according to the National Centre of Meteorolog­y.

The weather centre urged the public to be careful while driving amid rainfall and poor horizontal visibility. It also advised people to stay away from surface run-offs caused by rainwater.

The Abu Dhabi Police also called on drivers to be careful due to the rainy weather, and to abide by the variable speed limit shown on signboards and electronic screens.

The NCM also indicated that the weather on Saturday would be fair to partly cloudy and hazy at times during daytime. Clouds would appear eastward by the aternoon, with a gradual increase in temperatur­es. Light to moderate southweste­rly to northweste­rly winds, at times blowing dust, were likely, with a speed 15 –25 reaching 35 km/hr. The waves would be mild in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.

The weather on Sunday is also expected to be fair, hazy at times during the daytime and partly cloudy especially westward. Light to moderate southweste­rly to northweste­rly winds, freshening at times, causing blowing dust, with a speed 15 – 25 reaching 40 km/hr, were likely. The sea would be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.

Heavy rain was witnessed in several areas of the UAE recently, bringing down the temperatur­e by a few notches.
