Jawaher calls to boost investment in nation’s girls scout movement
SHARJAH: Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the UAE Girl Guides Association, has emphasised the importance of boosting investments in the nation’s girls scout movement so as to strengthen its foundational role in empowering future generations of Emirati women to shape promising futures; fully equipped with the knowledge and skillsets required to lead successful personal as well as professional lives.
Sheikha Jawaher made these remarks during her visit to the Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) headquarters, where she was offered an overview of SGG’S overarching strategy and action plan for the near future to advance the scouting movement in the UAE, particularly, the emirate of Sharjah.
She also heard from SGG officials on the past achievements of the entity, reflected in the entity’s successful efforts in boosting the role of their Brownies, Guides and Senior Guides in Emirati society.
RIGHT KNOWLEDGE: Stressing on the need for SGG members to build distinguished skillsets as well as value systems, Sheikha Jawaher opined, “We are commited to raising capable generations of young female leaders in the UAE, equipped with the ability to serve the public, and with deep knowledge that they will find in good books and writing. The right knowledge, advanced skillsets, and a sense of service to community will lay the foundations for the rise of successive generations of Emirati women who will play a leading role in the country’s development.”
“We aspire to elevate SGG to a global level, and thereby, boost cooperation between Sharjah and the UAE, GCC and the wider region. We plan to do this by organising several value-creating and interactive guiding activities that will bring girl scouts from across the region on one plaform with their peers, facilitate the sharing of knowledge and expertise, and allow SGG to realise organisational goals in more collaborative ways,” Sheikha Jawaher added.
On the tour of the SGG, the Chairperson of the UAE Girl Guides Association was accompanied by Shaikha Al Shamsi, Director of SGG, and several departmental heads.
Her Highness examined the recent renovations carried out by SGG to enhance the stimulating and nurturing environment it provides its young members with to tap into their full potential, and also met a group of bright young Brownies and Guides, who spoke about their passions and the skills they acquired at SGG including writing, cooking, drawing, wood working, handicrats, and others.
In conclusion of the visit, Sheikha Jawaher urged the SGG team to continue their march towards advancing their members’ capabilities to raise successive generations of young female leaders in Sharjah, and lauded their efforts to realise the organisation’s vision, which aligns with the visions of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and the UAE Girl Guides Association, and the UAE Vision 2021.
Recently, Sheikha Jawaher had highlighted the vital role of businesswomen in Sharjah and commended their key contributions as drivers of the emirate’s economic advancement.

These statements were made during Her Highness’s visit to the new HQ of Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC), a NAMA affiliate. Reem Binkaram, Director of NAMA, and Mariam Bin Al Shaikh, Acting Manager of SBWC, accompanied Sheikha Jawaher on the tour, during which they met the team at SBWC working to realise the vision of Her Highness to advance and empower women in academics, professions, the economy and society.
Addressing the NAMA and SBWC teams, Sheikha Jawaher said: “In the course of overseeing your integrated efforts towards achieving a common goal, I have seen the tremendous results produced by the qualified cadres here who bring passion and purpose to work every day. You have all exceeded expectations in advancing the various services we provide to businesswomen and female entrepreneurs in Sharjah. UN’S HONOUR FOR JAWAHER:SHEIKHA Jawaher, who is also Chairperson of The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF), and Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children at UNHCR, had highlighted the fact that the refugee crisis is the most pressing humanitarian issue, and has the worst impact on displaced children let vulnerable to the harsh circumstances of life in asylum.
The statement came on the sidelines of a UNHCR officiating ceremony organised to reappoint Sheikha Jawaher as an Eminent Advocate. With this renewal of confidence, she completes a decade-long journey in this significant role which she took up in 2013 as the UNHCR’S first Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children to use her global position and influence to increase public awareness about refugees and the work of the UNHCR, with a focus on children.
SHARJAH: The Physical and Occupational Therapy Centre of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) celebrated World Physiotherapy Day, which the world observes on September 8 of each year.
In this context, the Centre has completed the (Yourself is Life) initiative that it started during the year 2020 to serve the beneficiaries under the slogan (Rehabilitation and COVID-19). The title this year will be in line with the slogan of World Physiotherapy Day. It would include a set of exercises to improve the level of breathing in addition to chest exercises and motor activities to stimulate blood circulation.
Nouf Al Ali, Acting Director of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Centre, has affirmed keeping pace with the latest and best international practices in providing direct and supportive services to the centre’s students. The number of students who benefited from these direct sessions, which last year amounted to 8,274, are about 284. The improvement rate has reached 91 per cent.
Among the most prominent of these direct services were specialised exercises and movement exercises provided to children on a regular basis by relying on specialised treatment methods using individual treatment systems.
She said, “During the past year, hundreds of people benefited from the centre’s support services such as ( Music Therapy sessions, Evaluation, Class Visits). The centre was very keen on the continuity of services during the COVID-19 pandemic (closely and remotely) in cooperation with parents.”
On World Physiotherapy Day, the Centre organised a (virtual) dialogue session entitled (Let’s Talk about Rehabilitation and Long Covid). The centre presented a set of experiences to people infected with COVID-19 and explained the role that physical therapy plays in the rehabilitation process.
The centre also displayed a set of long-term COVID awareness videos and the best physiotherapy practices on how to deal with it through breathing exercises, improving the performance of the chest muscles and raising the efficiency of the respiratory system.
