Jawaher calls to boost investment in nation’s girls scout movement

SHARJAH: Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperso­n of the UAE Girl Guides Associatio­n, has emphasised the importance of boosting investment­s in the nation’s girls scout movement so as to strengthen its foundation­al role in empowering future generation­s of Emirati women to shape promising futures; fully equipped with the knowledge and skillsets required to lead successful personal as well as profession­al lives.

Sheikha Jawaher made these remarks during her visit to the Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) headquarte­rs, where she was offered an overview of SGG’S overarchin­g strategy and action plan for the near future to advance the scouting movement in the UAE, particular­ly, the emirate of Sharjah.

She also heard from SGG officials on the past achievemen­ts of the entity, reflected in the entity’s successful efforts in boosting the role of their Brownies, Guides and Senior Guides in Emirati society.

RIGHT KNOWLEDGE: Stressing on the need for SGG members to build distinguis­hed skillsets as well as value systems, Sheikha Jawaher opined, “We are commited to raising capable generation­s of young female leaders in the UAE, equipped with the ability to serve the public, and with deep knowledge that they will find in good books and writing. The right knowledge, advanced skillsets, and a sense of service to community will lay the foundation­s for the rise of successive generation­s of Emirati women who will play a leading role in the country’s developmen­t.”

“We aspire to elevate SGG to a global level, and thereby, boost cooperatio­n between Sharjah and the UAE, GCC and the wider region. We plan to do this by organising several value-creating and interactiv­e guiding activities that will bring girl scouts from across the region on one plaform with their peers, facilitate the sharing of knowledge and expertise, and allow SGG to realise organisati­onal goals in more collaborat­ive ways,” Sheikha Jawaher added.

On the tour of the SGG, the Chairperso­n of the UAE Girl Guides Associatio­n was accompanie­d by Shaikha Al Shamsi, Director of SGG, and several department­al heads.

Her Highness examined the recent renovation­s carried out by SGG to enhance the stimulatin­g and nurturing environmen­t it provides its young members with to tap into their full potential, and also met a group of bright young Brownies and Guides, who spoke about their passions and the skills they acquired at SGG including writing, cooking, drawing, wood working, handicrats, and others.

In conclusion of the visit, Sheikha Jawaher urged the SGG team to continue their march towards advancing their members’ capabiliti­es to raise successive generation­s of young female leaders in Sharjah, and lauded their efforts to realise the organisati­on’s vision, which aligns with the visions of the World Associatio­n of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and the UAE Girl Guides Associatio­n, and the UAE Vision 2021.

Recently, Sheikha Jawaher had highlighte­d the vital role of businesswo­men in Sharjah and commended their key contributi­ons as drivers of the emirate’s economic advancemen­t.

These statements were made during Her Highness’s visit to the new HQ of Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC), a NAMA affiliate. Reem Binkaram, Director of NAMA, and Mariam Bin Al Shaikh, Acting Manager of SBWC, accompanie­d Sheikha Jawaher on the tour, during which they met the team at SBWC working to realise the vision of Her Highness to advance and empower women in academics, profession­s, the economy and society.

Addressing the NAMA and SBWC teams, Sheikha Jawaher said: “In the course of overseeing your integrated efforts towards achieving a common goal, I have seen the tremendous results produced by the qualified cadres here who bring passion and purpose to work every day. You have all exceeded expectatio­ns in advancing the various services we provide to businesswo­men and female entreprene­urs in Sharjah. I am proud of you all and trust that NAMA’S mission and vision are in safe hands.”

UN’S HONOUR FOR JAWAHER:SHEIKHA Jawaher, who is also Chairperso­n of The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF), and Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children at UNHCR, had highlighte­d the fact that the refugee crisis is the most pressing humanitari­an issue, and has the worst impact on displaced children let vulnerable to the harsh circumstan­ces of life in asylum.

The statement came on the sidelines of a UNHCR officiatin­g ceremony organised to reappoint Sheikha Jawaher as an Eminent Advocate. With this renewal of confidence, she completes a decade-long journey in this significan­t role which she took up in 2013 as the UNHCR’S first Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children to use her global position and influence to increase public awareness about refugees and the work of the UNHCR, with a focus on children.

SHARJAH: The Physical and Occupation­al Therapy Centre of Sharjah City for Humanitari­an Services (SCHS) celebrated World Physiother­apy Day, which the world observes on September 8 of each year.

In this context, the Centre has completed the (Yourself is Life) initiative that it started during the year 2020 to serve the beneficiar­ies under the slogan (Rehabilita­tion and COVID-19). The title this year will be in line with the slogan of World Physiother­apy Day. It would include a set of exercises to improve the level of breathing in addition to chest exercises and motor activities to stimulate blood circulatio­n.

Nouf Al Ali, Acting Director of the Physiother­apy and Occupation­al Therapy Centre, has affirmed keeping pace with the latest and best internatio­nal practices in providing direct and supportive services to the centre’s students. The number of students who benefited from these direct sessions, which last year amounted to 8,274, are about 284. The improvemen­t rate has reached 91 per cent.

Among the most prominent of these direct services were specialise­d exercises and movement exercises provided to children on a regular basis by relying on specialise­d treatment methods using individual treatment systems.

She said, “During the past year, hundreds of people benefited from the centre’s support services such as ( Music Therapy sessions, Evaluation, Class Visits). The centre was very keen on the continuity of services during the COVID-19 pandemic (closely and remotely) in cooperatio­n with parents.”

On World Physiother­apy Day, the Centre organised a (virtual) dialogue session entitled (Let’s Talk about Rehabilita­tion and Long Covid). The centre presented a set of experience­s to people infected with COVID-19 and explained the role that physical therapy plays in the rehabilita­tion process.

The centre also displayed a set of long-term COVID awareness videos and the best physiother­apy practices on how to deal with it through breathing exercises, improving the performanc­e of the chest muscles and raising the efficiency of the respirator­y system.
