Sharjah Civil Defence douses warehouse fire

SHARJAH: Squads of the Sharjah Civil Defence controlled a fire that broke out in a warehouse locating in the industrial area on Sunday aternoon.

No human casualties were reported, an official source confirmed.

The operations room of the Civil Defence Department in Sharjah received a report at 12:40pm stating that a warehouse for auto spare parts and scrap had caught fire in the Industrial Area 8. Instantly, the firefighti­ng squads had been dispatched to the scene accompanie­d by ambulances and police patrols, the source added. “Upon reaching the site of the fire, the firefighti­ng teams began to cordon off the scene with the support of the police patrols and evacuated the workers in the neighborin­g warehouses. They were able to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to the next warehouses, which oten contain flammable materials,” the source said.

They contained and put out the fire completely without human casualties, while other losses were reported in auto spare parts and electrical devices that were in the warehouse.

The cooling operations continued at the site ater distinguis­hing the fire to prevent it from recurring. The competent teams then proceeded with examining the scene to determine the causes of the fire, the sources added.

Recently, Emirates Group Security (EGS), the leading aviation security service and learning and developmen­t provider in the region, has partnered with Dubai Airports ( DA) to enhance specialist skills training for airport employees, recently completing the first Fire Warden and

Safety training session for Dubai Airports’ Serco Middle East employees.

The training session is the first of many in the field of aviation security, fire safety and first aid that will be conducted following the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that was signed between Emirates Group Security and Dubai Airports.

Under the agreement, both organisati­ons – industry leaders in their respective fields – will mobilise their resources, expertise and facilities to ensure operations at Dubai Airports continue to be secure, safe, and world-class.

A mutual collaborat­ion between the two organisati­ons, EGS will provide advanced education and training services compliant with internatio­nal standards and industry best practices to Dubai Airports employees as well as other workers that operate at Dubai Internatio­nal.
