Police officer dies of injuries in Srinagar attack

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police subinspect­or injured in terrorist firing on Sunday in Srinagar city, has succumbed to critical injuries.

Police sources said sub-inspector Arshid Ahmad, who was injured in the terrorist firing on a police ‘ Naka’ (Checkpost) near Khanyar police station in the old Srinagar city, has succumbed in the hospital.

“The injured SI was shited to S.M.H.S hospital in the city from where he was referred to SKIMS Soura for specialise­d treatment.

“He has succumbed to critical injuries”, police sources said.

The officer belonged to Kupwara district in north Kashmir.

Security forces are carrying out searches in the area to trace the assassins.

Jammu and Kashmir mainstream party leaders have condemned the killing of a Jammu and Kashmir police Sub-inspector in a terrorist atack on Sunday.

Former Chief Minister and J&K National Conference leader, Omar Abdullah tweeted, “Sorry to hear about the death in the line of duty of Sub-inspector Arshid Mir of @Jmukmrpoli­ce in a dastardly atack in the heart of Srinagar city. A young life with so much promise, another grieving family. May Allah grant Arshid place in Jannat.”

Jammu & Kashmir People’s Conference leader Imran Ansari while condemning the attack tweeted, “Strongly condemn the killing of JK police Sub-inspector Arshid Ahmad. A young life snatched in broad daylight, leaving behind his family in perpetual mourning and sense of grief.

May Allah grant him highest place in Jannat.”

Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Muti tweeted, “Saddened to hear about the death of J&K Police Sub-inspector Arshid Ahmed killed by militants at Khanyar on Sunday. May his soul rest in peace and condolence­s to his family.”

The Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Sunday that the killers of Arshid Ahmad Mir have been identified and they would soon be brought to justice. “We have lost a brave officer today and the family has lost their dear son.

“The killers have been identified and will soon be brought to justice,” DGP Dilbag Singh told reporters.

On the other hand, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district carried out a rescue operation and rescued a nomadic family along with their livestock, who were stuck in the nallah Yath Yathur, the police officials said on Sunday.
