Wantaway Kostic scores off bench in Frankfurt draw

BERLIN: Eintracht Frankfurt’s wantaway midfielder Filip Kostic came off the bench to score in Sunday’s 1-1 Bundesliga draw at home to 10-man Stutgart for the first time since boycoting training in an atempt to force a transfer to Italy.

In an action-packed last 11 minutes, Kostic gave Frankfurt the lead before Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush levelled for Stutgart, who had defender Waldemar Anton shown a straight red card.

“Filip brought lots of momentum when he came on - that’s how we know him,” Frankfurt captain Martin Hinteregge­r told DAZN.

Kostic, 28, skipped Frankfurt training before the transfer window closed a fortnight ago in order to force a move to Serie A side Lazio.

Ater being let out of the squad for Frankfurt’s previous league game, head coach Oliver Glasner brought Kostic on for the last half an hour.

The Serbia winger roared with delight ater his superb shot flew into the net via the post to put the hosts ahead on 79 minutes, as he celebrated his first goal this season.

Stutgart centre-back Anton was then sent off for bringing down Frankfurt’s Rafael Borre, who was through on goal.

The visitors equalised when Marmoush, on loan from Wolfsburg, fired into an empty net at the second atempt two minutes from time.

Frankfurt came within a whisker of grabbing their first win this season when Borre’s shot smacked the underside of the crossbar and bounced away from goal.

On Saturday, Wolfsburg maintained their 100 percent record at the top of the table with a 2-0 win at Greuther Fuerth while defending champions Bayern Munich are second ater their 4-1 romp at RB Leipzig.

Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowsk­i chalked up his sixth goal in just four Bundesliga games as Bayern Munich swept aside RB Leipzig 4-1 on Saturday to go second in the table behind early leaders Wolfsburg.

Lewandowsk­i neted a first-half penalty before 18-year-old Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane added quick-fire goals just ater the break in front of 34,000 fans at Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena.
