Inclusivity must to realise Quaid’s dream: PML-N

- Tariq Butt

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has stressed to take all provinces onboard, respect them and ensure equal access to resources for all of them.

His remarks came as he addressed the media alongside Balochistan National Party-mengal (BNP-M) chief Akhtar Mengal, whom he met to offer condolences on the death of his father, Sardar Ataullah Mengal.

The PML-N president stated that all stakeholders would have to move forward collectively for democracy to progress. The PML-N leader opined that the Quaid-e-azam’s dream would only materialise if all provinces were taken onboard.

Speaking about the late nationalist leader, Shehbaz Sharif said that history will remember Sardar Ataullah Mengal in golden words.

Recalling that many democratic governments were toppled using Article 58 2(b), he highlighted that late Ataullah Mengal had a crucial role to play in abolishing it. He said the PML-N’S victory in the cantonment board elections was a great achievement and it meant the end of politics of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI).

“There is no denying the fact that the cantonment board elections took place without any interference. The majority of Punjab voted for the PML-N. The PTI died at its birthplace. Next time, the general elections will have to be held in a transparent manner without any rigging.”

The opposition leader warned that if the polls were not held in a free and fair manner, his party would pursue legal action as per its right.

Though the PTI has secured most of the seats all over the country, its defeat at the hands of the PML-N in Punjab surprised many, who had predicted the PTI’S victory in the province, being the ruling party.

The results show that the PPP has won 17 seats - 14 in Sindh and three in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) - whereas Jamaat-i-islami (JI) has managed to bag seven seats - two in Punjab and five in Sindh.

The Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) bagged 10 seats (all in Sindh), the Balochistan Awami Party won three seats (all in Balochistan) and the Awami National Party (ANP) remained victorious in two wards of KP.

The religious parties once again failed to make any impact as only the Jamaat-e-islami has succeeded in geting some seats whereas the other religious parties, including the Jamiat Ulema-i-islam (JUI-F) and the banned Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), failed to win even a single seat despite fielding candidates in good number.
