PTI wins allies’ support on electoral reforms

ISLAMABAD: Federal Informatio­n Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said on Monday the joint parliament session has been convened on Wednesday for which the reservatio­ns of government allies have been allayed who will support the bills tabled for electoral reforms.

“All our allies, Mutahida Qaumi Movement — Pakistan (MQM-P) and Pakistan Mulsim League — Q (PML-Q), have agreed to support our Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) bill,” said Chaudhry while briefing media in Islamabad ater a meeting of the members of the government’s allied parties with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The minister said the entire leadership of the allied parties, including GDA, Mqm-pakistan, PML-Q and Balochista­n Awami Party was present in the meeting, and standing with the government. He said the reservatio­ns of the allies were listened and addressed.

Chaudhry said it was unanimousl­y decided that a joint siting of the parliament would be summoned on Wednesday. He said bills pertaining to electoral reforms will be tabled in the session.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan has decided against jacking up the fuel prices.

The prime minister took a decision in order to provide relief to the masses, the federal government has said. The prices of petroleum products are fixed by the government for 15 days.

Earlier on Nov.5, the government had jacked up the prices of petrol and diesel by more than Rs8 per litre, days ater the prime minister had announced a relief package for the masses.

According to a notificati­on issued by the

Finance Division, the price of petrol was hiked by Rs8.03 to Rs145.82 per litre while that of high-speed diesel by Rs8.14 to Rs142.62 per litre.

“On Nov.1, 2021, the prime minister had not agreed with the proposals worked out by OGRA and Finance Division and directed to maintain the prices as notified on Oct.16, 2021,” reads the notificati­on.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Planning, Developmen­t & Reforms Asad Umar has said that the disease of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) will also go away ater vaccinatio­n.

He told reporters that Imran Khan is present in the government and is working day and night for the beterment of the people.

“The PDM is just like any other winter illness. Ater geting the vaccine, PDM disease will also go away. As long as the entire population is not vaccinated against coronaviru­s, the risk will remain high. Only geting vaccinatio­n can reduce the risk of coronaviru­s,” the minister claimed.
