Authoritie­s on alert amid monsoon rainfall

ISLAMABAD:MRIME jinister juhammad phahbaz pharif on punday directed the provincial government­s to remain alert in the wake of continuing monsoon rainfall which could trigger flash floods in different parts of the country.

qhe prime minister in a message to the chief minister pindh said that the federal government would provide all possible support to the provincial government in this difficult situation.

qhe recent rainy spell is lashing harachi for the last few days, resulting in the monsoon deluge.

qhe prime minister also directed the kational aisaster janagement Authority (kaja) to fully assist the provincial government­s and the department­s concerned.

ee said the protection of the properties and lives of the people in the low-lying areas should be ensured.

qhe prime minister also desired that the elected representa­tives should supervise the rescue and relief activities launched by the relevant department­s.

qhe prevailing monsoon effects spreading across the country have increased the risk of urban flooding in mega urban centres as heavy downpour further lashed out various parts of the country.

qhe ongoing monsoon rain was in its active phase especially in the northern and central areas of the country including oawalpindi, fslamabad and iahore, aeputy airector clood corecastin­g aepartment, makistan jeteorolog­ical aepartment (mja), ar waheer Ahmed Babar told a state run news agency while sharing updates on the monsoon rain.

Babar said the rain is expected to travel further to other parts of the country within the next two days.

“fn the north, areas like meshawar and hashmir are likely to experience rainfall while in the south cities like qhatta and Badin in pindh are expected to be hit by downpour,” he added.

qhe jet lffice official underlined the monsoon pattern of this season was abnormal that wreaked havoc in various parts of the country particular­ly the southern region. ee mentioned that an early peak was expected in the rain pattern and it became a reality with the ongoing excessive rain throughout the country.

“qhe areas like Balochista­n and pindh have been severely hit due to this early spell which was previously not common in the region.”

ee further explained that there was a list of negative effects that should be looked out for in the coming days.
