DUBAI: The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced two Asians, one of them a fugitive, to six months in prison each for stealing cash money, bullion and jewellery valued at Dhs520,000 from the safe of a company for which one of them first worked. The Court also fined the two convicts jointly Dhs520,000. They would be also deported ater serving the penalties, the Court ruled.

In the details, the case dates back to June last year, the police received a report from the owner of a carpet trade company in Dubai, ater he found the outer door of his company broken and sabotage of the money safe in his office. He also found the safe in his office empty ater it was opened with a saw or a metal-cuting machine.

He told the police that the safe contained jewellery and gold bars worth Dhs125,000, $90,000, and Dhs30,000, along with a passport belonging to the company’s PRO, all of which were stolen. There was also Dhs35,000 in one of the drawers of his brother’s office in the same company, that was stolen as well, the owner added.

Upon checking the surveillance cameras in the company, two people were seen entering his office ater breaking the company’s outer door, robbing the safe and fleeing the place.

A team of investigators was able to identify one of the suspects. He was a sales representative working for the company, but he let the country immediately ater commiting the crime. He was contacted via “Whatsapp” and he admited to his crime, informed them about his partner, and gave them a photo of his passport, so he was arrested.

The second suspect admited his complicity with the sales representative in stealing contents of the safe, as the fugitive suspect gave him Dhs1,800, the value of the COVID-19 test and a flight ticket to his home in exchange in return for his connivance in the crime.
