Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, on Wednesday visited the British Consulate in Dubai and offered his condolences over the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Sheikh Maktoum was received by Simon Penney, UK’S Trade Commissioner for the Middle East and Consul-general to Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
Writing in the consulate’s condolence book for Queen Elizabeth II, Sheikh Maktoum expressed his deepest condolences to King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the royal family and the people of the UK.
During the visit, he said that Queen Elizabeth II was an inspiring and iconic leader who won the love, respect and admiration of people around the world.
He also highlighted the close bonds between the UAE and the UK and expressed the hope that the relationship between the two countries will continue to grow deeper and stronger in the years to come.
A couple of days ago Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has also offered his condolences over the death of Queen Elizabeth II, during a visit to the headquarters of the Embassy of United Kingdom (UK) in Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Abdullah extended his hearfelt condolences over the death of Queen Elizabeth, highlighting the strong, historic friendship that the Queen had with the UAE and her global status as a role model of wisdom, moderation and tolerance.
Queen Elizabeth II was keen on establishing a distinctive model for constructive cooperation that helped drive prosperity and development in our countries, he added, underscoring the deeprooted and highly advanced relations between their countries.
Sheikh Abdullah also expressed his wishes for continued progress and prosperity for the UK and its people, under the leadership of King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al
Nahyan, Minister of State and a number of UAE ministers and senior officials had also visited the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate in Dubai recently to offer their condolences at the passing of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Writing on the book of condolences, the UAE top mourners expressed their profound condolences and sympathies to King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the royal family and the friendly British people over the death of the Queen. They highlighted the longstanding relations that bind the UAE with the UK in all walks of life.
Those who extended condolences included Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, Sara Awad Issa Musallam, Minister of State for Early Education, Chairperson of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge and Member of the Executive Council, Dr Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice, and Khaldoun Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority, Member of the Executive Council, along with a number of other high-ranking officials.
Dubai residents have also offered their condolences on the death of Queen Elizabeth II by placing flowers next to a statue of her at Queen Elizabeth 2 floating hotel.
Mourners queued to write leters of condolence, while others laid flowers and cards.
“We felt it was a fiting memorial for us to thank her for her 70 years of dedicated service to the country,” said Jim Hengensom, a resident of the emirate.
“I think it will always be there, and it will take some time to accept the fact that it is no longer there.”
