Heavy rain floods parts of UAE, mercury dips to 12ºc

ABU DHABI: Heavy rain continued falling on separate parts of the country on Tuesday as a result of weather conditions in the country, which started on Monday and will continue until Wednesday. The country is affected by a surface depression from the southeast, accompanie­d by moist southeaste­rly and northeaste­rly winds, with an extension of an air depression in the upper layers of the atmosphere from the west.

Thursday’s weather will be generally clear to partly cloudy, with the formation of some low clouds over some areas which may be cumulus in the aternoon, the NCM indicated.

It will also be humid at night and on Friday morning, with the possibilit­y of light fog formation in some internal areas.

Winds will be southeaste­rly, turning to northeaste­rly and northweste­rly, light to moderate, brisk at times, at a speed of 15 to 25, reaching 35 kilometres/hr.

Moderate rain started to fall on Merbah in Fujairah and Khor Fakkan in Sharjah, while heavy rain drenched Fujairah, Al Bataeh, Al Siuh, and Sharjah, Dubai Internatio­nal Academic City, Nad Al Sheba, Al Aweer, and separate areas in Dubai and other areas of the country.

The lowest temperatur­e in the country,12°c, was recorded on Tuesday, in Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah at 06:30am, UAE local time.

The National Centre of Meteorolog­y (NCM) expects Wednesday’s weather to be generally partly cloudy to cloudy at times, with some cumulus cloud formations, especially in the east and north, extending over some inland and coastal areas, accompanie­d by rain. It will be humid at night and on Thursday morning over some western interior areas.

Winds will be southeaste­rly, turning to northeaste­rly and northweste­rly, light to moderate, brisk at times, at a speed of 15 to 25, reaching 40 kilometres/h, according to the NCM.

The sea is expected to be light to moderate and may become turbulent at times with cloudy skies over the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.

On Thursday, the waves, according to the NCM, will be light in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.

Friday’s weather, according to the NCM, will be generally clear to partly cloudy and humid at night and on Saturday morning, with the possibilit­y of light fog formation in some coastal and inland areas.

Winds on Friday will be northweste­rly to northeaste­rly, light to moderate, at a speed of 10 to 20, reaching 30 kilometres/h, while the sea will be light in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.

The NCM expects Saturday’s weather to be generally clear to partly cloudy and humid at night and on Sunday morning, with light fog formation on some coastal and inland areas likely.
