Heavy rain drenches UAE

- Emad Eddin Khalil, Staff Reporter

ABU DHABI: Heavy rain continued falling on separate parts of the country on Tuesday as a result of weather conditions in the country, which started on Monday and will continue until Wednesday. The country is affected by a surface depression from the southeast, accompanied by moist southeasterly and northeasterly winds, with an extension of an air depression in the upper layers of the atmosphere from the west.

Thursday’s weather will be generally clear to partly cloudy, with the formation of some low clouds over some areas which may be cumulus in the aternoon, the NCM indicated.

It will also be humid at night and on Friday morning, with the possibility of light fog formation in some internal areas.

Winds will be southeasterly, turning to northeasterly and northwesterly, light to moderate, brisk at times, at a speed of 15 to 25, reaching 35 kilometres/hr.

Moderate rain started to fall on Merbah in Fujairah and Khor Fakkan in Sharjah, while heavy rain drenched Fujairah, Al Bataeh, Al Siuh, and Sharjah, Dubai International Academic City, Nad Al Sheba, Al Aweer, and separate areas in Dubai and other areas of the country.

An earlier report said: Morning shows the day. The cloudy weather at the start of Tuesday in the UAE meant only one thing: that it could start raining. Which is exactly what happened. The probability became a reality. Prety soon, raindrops kept falling on the country, much to the people’s delight. Many caught out in the rain started scampering for cover.

In Sharjah, the rain had an effect on the traffic ias it slowed down. There were long tailbacks. The damp weather however did not dampen spirits of the residents who welcomed it with open arms: it was like a breath of fresh air.

Soon the clouds made way for the sun, which made residents venture outdoors.

A recent report said under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, ordered Dubai Police emergency and rescue teams to support rescue operations being conducted in Fujairah and Eastern Areas to help people affected by heavy rain on Wednesday.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported “Convective rainy clouds formation associated with fresh winds with speed of 40 km/ hr. and rough sea with wave height reaching 7 Ft offshore in the Arabian Gulf from 14:30 Tuesday 26/07/2022 until Wednesday 27/07/2022.”

The NCM said that Khorfakkan experienced good rain. Earlier, light rain was reported in Ras Al Khaimah.
