EAD’S marine life projects shine at Internatio­nal Boat Show 2022

To date EAD has rehabilita­ted and rescued more than 400 turtles in partnershi­p with The National Aquarium

The Environmen­t Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) showcased a series of significan­t marine life projects during the Abu Dhabi Internatio­nal Boat Show that is being held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre Marina from the 24th to 27th November 2022.

At the EAD stand, the Agency had dynamic and interactiv­e screens to shed light on the Research Vessel, a state-of-the art ship fited with the most innovative technology. The 50-metre multipurpo­se marine conservati­on and fisheries vessel will use environmen­tally-friendly technologi­es to conduct specialise­d research in the hotest sea in the world – the Arabian Gulf – as part of the UAE’S commitment to execute innovative and forward-looking scientific projects.

The Agency also had an interactiv­e touch wall to share informatio­n about EAD’S turtle rehabilita­tion project that had sensors, projection mapping and sound effects. To date EAD has rehabilita­ted and rescued more than 400 turtles in partnershi­p with The National Aquarium.

To reach out to fishermen to raise their awareness on fishing regulation­s and laws, EAD shared informatio­n about the Recreation­al Fishing Regulation and the different methods to practise sustainabl­e fishing.

Khansa Al Blouki, Environmen­tal Outreach Director at EAD said: “One of the contributi­ng factors for the success of any visitor atraction in any show is the ability to create an environmen­t that offers the opportunit­y to create experience­s that are memorable. During EAD’S participat­ion at the Abu Dhabi Internatio­nal Boat Show, we aimed to create an experience using digital technology for the visitors to learn, explore and enjoy informatio­n about EAD’S marine projects.”

ENVIRONMEN­TAL INITIATIVE­S: The Environmen­t Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) and Modon have signed a Memorandum of Understand­ing (MOU) to collaborat­e on environmen­tal initiative­s to reduce air pollution, protect wildlife, marine life, and natural resources. This is in addition to developing programmes that ensure a safe and healthy environmen­t and enhance Abu Dhabi’s efforts to achieve the goals of the UAE 2050 Climate Neutrality Strategic Initiative.

The MOU signing coincided with the 27th Conference of Parties of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), also known as COP27.

The MOU was signed by Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary-general of the EAD, and Bill O’regan, CEO of Modon, at Hudayriyat island in Abu Dhabi.

The MOU stems from the mutual desire of the two parties for constructi­ve cooperatio­n to achieve goals,policies,plansandst­rategicpro­grammes,and with a special focus on cooperatio­n for sustainabl­e developmen­t and climate neutrality. In addition, the two organisati­ons will exchange knowledge and experience­s, and propose appropriat­e solutions to various environmen­tal challenges via pioneering and innovative environmen­tal initiative­s and study their success.

Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri said, ‘’By signing the MOU with Modon, we seek to develop and strengthen partnershi­ps so we can build bridges of communicat­ion and cooperatio­n between the government­andprivate­sector.thesesecto­rsinclude agencies and institutio­ns related to the protection of the environmen­t and natural resources in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which will strengthen the sector’s developmen­tal and societal role.”

She added, “One of the objectives of the MOU is to strengthen the principle of environmen­tal partnershi­p, through which EAD seeks to share the responsibi­lity and developmen­t with other sectors and entities in the emirate.”
