- Aya El Deeb, Staff Reporter

ABU DHABI: A father filed an urgent lawsuit, in which he demanded the expulsion of his son from his house, stressing that he allowed him, his wife and grandchildren to stay in for a temporary period, but he refused to leave.

The Al Ain Court of First Instance obligated the son to quit the house and hand it over to the father, but the son appealed the ruling, and the Al Ain Appellate Court rejected his appeal.

The father explained that he allowed his son to stay in his house temporarily with his wife until he would rent a house of his own, but the son refused to leave.

He demanded to obligate him to pay the fees and expenses of the lawsuit and the lawyer’s fees.

The son appealed the ruling, stressing that the part of the house he lived in was built with his own money at a cost of Dhs320,000, more than 10 years ago, based on an agreement with his father, which his mother and brother witnessed.

He added that he did not have any house of his own and demanded dismissal of the lawsuit and a government agency be addressed to investigate the grant he received for the maintenance of the house, and to obligate him to pay fees and expenses.

The court affirmed that the deadline for appeal is 30 days ater the initial verdict and 10 days in urgent cases, pointing out that the son appealed ater 11 days from the preliminary judgment, and so he did not have the right to appeal.

The court rejected the appeal and obligated the appellee to pay fees and expenses of the lawsuit.

Separately, a gang of four Asians ran a gambling den in a villa in Nad Al Hamar in Dubai. The police raided the villa and arrested the suspects and a number of gamblers red-handed.

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced three of the suspects in absentia and the fourth in presence to one year in jail to be followed by deportation.

It also sentenced 18 gamblers to three months in jail to be followed by deportation.

The court fined all the suspects Dhs100,000 each and ordered that the villa be shut down unless it was prepared for a legitimate purpose, pending the public prosecution’s approval.
