Five men put behind bars and fined in theft case

DUBAI: Thedubaicr­iminalcour­tsentenced­fiveasians to six months in jail to be followed by deportatio­n and fined them Dhs192,000 for stealing with others who are still at large 250 boxes containing readymade garments and cigaretes worth Dhs192,000 from a warehouse in Ras Al Khor Industrial Area.

The case dated back to last August when a Gulf investor filed a complaint in which he stated that his warehouse in Ras Al Khor Industrial Area had been robbed. The complainan­t said that on the day of the incident he received a phone call from a warehouse worker telling him the warehouse had been robbed.

He added that when he went to the warehouse, he found that the lock of the warehouse door had been broken and removed from its place.

Later, he checked the surveillan­ce cameras and found that 10 Asians came to the place at night and managed to break the lock of the warehouse door and entered the warehouse. There, he saw them steal boxes containing ready-made garments and tobacco worth Dhs192,000. He then reported the incident to the police.

A policeman stated that a team of detectives gathered inferences and managed to identify and arrest the driver of the labour transporti­ng bus used to transport the stolen boxes.

On interrogat­ion, the driver confessed to having collaborat­edwithothe­rstorobaga­rmentwareh­ouse in Ras Al Khor Area against Dhs1,000. He led the detectives to four other suspects, who were arrested and confessed to having robbed the warehouse in collaborat­ion with others.

Separately, the security teams at the Criminal Investigat­ion Department (CID) of the Umm Al Quwain Police recently arrested a gang of four Asians, who impersonat­ed cops to steal vehicles from their owners.

According to Colonel Saeed Obaid Bin Arran, Directorof­thecid,alsalamahc­omprehensi­vepolice Station received a report from a person stating that he had been stopped while he was on Mohammed Bin Zayed Road in Umm Al Quwain.

“Themanwhos­toppedthat­personclai­medthat he was a cop and he asked him to get off the car because it is wanted, and then drove the car to an unknown destinatio­n,” Col. Arran added.
