Man ordered to pay Dhs26,586 for breaching contract
ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Court for Family, Civil and Administrative Cases ordered a man to pay Dhs26,586, as he sold his vehicle through an ad on Facebook, but did not hand over the car to the buyer under the pretext of his anger because of its low price.
The details of the case date back to an earlier time, when a man filed a lawsuit against another in which he requested that the appellee pay him Dhs22,000, Dhs2,743 the value of repair, Dhs5,600 the rental value of the car and compensation of Dhs20,000.
The appellant said that the appellee offered a vehicle for sale on the social networking site “Facebook”, so he contacted him and went to check it. Ater checking and negotiations, they agreed on a price of Dhs22,000.
He added that the appellee asked him to transfer the amount to the bank account of his driver due to problems in his own account. He did that and already received the vehicle on condition that it be legally registered under his name later. Then, the appellant asked one of his friends to go to the appellee’s residence to complete the vehicle’s waiver procedures, but he refused, claiming that he was so angry because of its low price.
The court affirmed that the appellee had breached his commitment to the contract, and accordingly the court ordered him to pay compensation of Dhs2,000 for the damages, Dhs2,586 for the repairs, and Dhs22,000 for the price of the car.
Separately, the Dubai Criminal Court recently sentenced an Asian driver to one month in jail, to be followed by deportation ater serving his sentence, on the charges of stealing a vehicle of the company he worked for ater he was sacked.
He confessed that ater he was sacked, he started implementing his revenge by visiting one of his colleagues, who was a workers’ supervisor and responsible for the movement of vehicles for the company, at the company’s workers accommodation in the Moroccan District in the International City.
