KOCHI: The uncertainty over the release of the much-awaited James Cameron movie Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel to the 2009 blockbuster movie Avatar, is over with the film exhibitors and distributors reaching a setlement over revenue sharing.

The science fiction drama will hit the theatres in Kerala on Dec.16, according to the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK), which successfully resolved the disagreement with the distributors of the movie. Helmed by the veteran director James Cameroon, Avatar: The Way of Water is the second installment of the hit fantasy film Avatar which gained appreciation from movie buffs all over who termed it a masterpiece.

Earlier, the theatre owners under FEUOK declared that they will not cooperate with the release of the Hollywood film expressing protest against the new contractual terms made by Avatar distributors.

Last week FEUOK had stated that Avatar 2 will not be screened in Kerala owing to differences between the exhibitors body and distributors.

According to FEUOK, the distribution company had sought 60 per cent of share from collections in the first week itself. The distributors have now decided to accept the terms proposed by FEUOK and has sought only 55 per cent of share from collections in the first two weeks.

Avatar, released a decade ago had received massive response in Kerala and is reportedly the highest-grossing movie of all time. Avatar had garnered more than $2.92 billion in ticket sales worldwide (including re-releases). The film is expected to take a huge opening in India with multiplex chains announcing that there has been an overwhelming response to advance bookings.

According to the makers, the movie narrates the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the batles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

The film is produced by Cameron and Jon Landau and the Lightstorm Entertainment Production.
